Speed Run Challenge!

Oh right, that weapon I drop as soon as I get! Would be really good for a speed run, though, I agree. Look at those stats requirements! 16 Str, 12 Dex--wouldn't even have to raise your starting stats to be able to wield it.

Well, i'm at word and i cant really open youtube here, but i saw a video of a guy doing a speed run that taked like 1:20 and somthing with everything, he used the golg hemmed set and for some bosses traded for the stone set, and for weapons he used the drake sword and the pyromancer flame, that was pretty impressive i must say

^I've seen all the runs on youtube. Impressive stuff! You don't need to aim to break a world record, though, to do a speed run. To me, the fun is planning your own route and executing it as fast as you can.

I get too sidetracked. I could easily see myself burning 5-10 minutes rescuing Dusk... :|

^ lol same. i just have to much fun roleplaying and taking my time, i think thats why speed runs just arent for me. i was thinking of trying to plan out a speedrun as my final playthrough, but im just going for a low lvl challenge where i limit items allowed. It actually feels really nice actually farming again, im ashamed but bb glitch has spoiled me. I was about to go into blighttown(through depths) and realized i not only had no moss but no rusted ring. This is becoming one of my more enjoyable playthroughs, i really needed a break from pvp.

Blaine - I got a 1hr 30 min speedrun the other day but it was for a pvp toon I speedran to NG+ so I could get the 2nd GC stack and then I also did one yesterday with BB glitch in 1hr 15 mins

Good job on the 1:30. What weapon did you use?

I don't know if I'd bother doing a BB run. Just thinking about it... It'd be a cakewalk and very fast, but then I wouldn't consider it a real run so I don't think I'd bother committing to it. And if I don't commit, I don't see the point in doing it in the first place! Plus, to do it right, I'd have to dedicate 2 character slots to it (1 donor, 1 runner), and I can't even bring myself to delete 1 of my current toons, let alone 2. So... not gonna happen, I think.

That's the point of the plan--stick to it! I know what you mean, though. My first run I did without a plan, and it was hard to get out of my completionist ways. But once I'd made a plan, I could stick to it and avoid the distractions.

I'd need to update my run to factor the DWGR nerf, but with all the new shortcuts I know now I could easily be under 1:30. I'm not playing enough anymore to really be able to pull it off, but it's not as hard as one might think to speed run Dark Souls. Honestly, the game is a lot harder when you kill everything. And since you just run by everything in a speed run, it takes a lot of the difficulty away. All you need to be good at is killing bosses, with some handicaps. Chances are you'll be underleveled and improperly equipped. But if you're able to kill all the bosses(and kill them quickly) with those handicaps, then it won't be difficult.

So yeah, definitely try it! It's a ton of fun, I promise.

Never done a full run. I have done some early boss speed kills. Killed the tarus at 7 minutes in and killed quelagg at. 8:40. Recently killed bell gargoyles 15 minutes in. Its kinda fun to do stuff like that, especially if you have a friend over whos just getting into the game so you can give them something to work for.

Yeah, I kind of spoiled half the game for my friend when he'd just got it... I got on and beat O&S, including Pinwheel, Sif, Guargs, Quelaag, and Ceaseless, all in less than an hour. So he has all those trophies within an hour of starting the game, looks like a total pro!

I kind of ruined the first part for my friends cousin. He had been playing for 8 hours and was only level 19 and he couldn't beat bell gargoyles. I started a new character for him and went and beat Mildred, Quelagg, and ceaseless in an effort to start him off. In hindsight what seemed to me like helping for 20 min would probably take someone new much longer. The other problem is that after that he wanted me and my firend to help him or beat everything for him. Now hes pretty good though.

All you need to do his get the black night halberd to drop for u and whilst down that way red tearstone ring and then you can basically 3 or 4 shot bosses if you wield it in two hands, this is if you don't plan on spending time levelling up and lighting bonfires

Easier said than done; also your run depends on that Halberd drop.

I don't fancy the idea of my run depending on a random drop. Also, half the fun of a run is planning it. It's easy to go on youtube and just copy one; it's a lot more fun coming up with your own. At the time I planned this run, all the fastest runs on youtube used to go through the burg. I skipped it entirely by going through the valley of the drakes. Not saying I had any influence over the newer runs (would be hard without video!), but back then it was an original idea to go that way.
