I cured my Amnesia Empty I cured my Amnesia

Post by User Sun Jun 03, 2012 4:13 pm

Well, for the weekend, I took a break at my friend's house, in which we usually do when nothing else in the weekend is planned. However, as we usually rent games from a video store, we met a pandemic: All of the renting stores in Ottawa and the surrounding area are closing, due to cloud, on demand, steam, and other areas of which people can 'rent' games and movies. So, this weekend, I wanted to be an *** to my friend; He had a problem playing Dead Space, because it was too 'jumpy' for him. Well, I got a game for his laptop to play on, a game that is far superior in those factors: Amnesia, the Dark Descent.

    lol

I had a problem about a year ago, in which I could not finish Amnesia due to my heart being pained from the anxiety. My other friends I made play it had a similar circumstance, although they did not last as long. In fact, many have shown upright fear from playing it, and one even screamed, and other times had frozen their tracks in front of the horrors. So, since my friend had a lack of content to give and show, and it was raining a good amount this weekend (and still is), I thought I could make him play it.

    So we played.

We hooked up the TV with an HD cord from the PS3, and used his HD Screen TV with surround sound for an entire day. He was not good at computer controls, as he is a console player... Better for me to see, I knew. So I made him play. He went pretty far, going from the beginning till the Flooded Archives. I had to do the first part for him, as his grip on a laptop keyboard and a corded mous was not very sufficient. I gave it back to him in the second part. He went farther, all the way till storage. When he got the pieces for the elevator, I had to sneak for him, after he died six times. I gave it back to him afterwards, and he went to the first part of the prison... And we stopped.

He got aggitated by the deaths from the monsters, the overuse of oil and flint, and wanted a break from the... Uncomfortable environment. We watched some YouTube for about an hour, and we went back... After a while, I said to restart the character, as I said he '*** up' with the lights. He didn't want to track back... So I did.

Took me about an hour, while for him beforehand it was longer by an additional three. I just did not bother lighting as much candles, did not pull out my lantern, and was doing what was necessary. I had no anxiety, no fear... Perhaps it is because I did these before, but I think that past experiences from certain games just gave me a certain... comfort. However, the game itself and our play also gave me a Revelation later on, in which I still can not truly understand, nor do I truly know.

So I tracked for him till we reached down from the Elevator again, with 5 oil jars, a good amount of oil in lantern, and over 30 flint. I gave him the controller again. I was amazed at how well he did the first part, able to sneak, hide, and past the Gatherers more than three times. We went all the way, till he dug into a certain area with a hammer, in which I then took part in The Dark Descent.

You must understand that I stopped at the second part, and did not even remember past it. I stopes when I reached a kitchen with rotten apples and pigs. This time, though, we went farther. I helped him threw most of it, switching turns back and forth. We were confused as of what to do, as we did not out a damn torch, and we always crouched on the walls. We only got killed once, and that was because I heard a monster roar, in which I tried to hide by going into a cell... Which was where he was in. I was very relaxed by it, actually. We went from one place to another, surviving the monster's encounters about four, five times with stealth; he only broke down one door. My friend was paranoid, as the background SFX sounds of footsteps were heard... Even when they were not there. After getting turned around, and confused as of what to do with the acid (as I though of using it on a wonan's corpse, or a locked gate). After a while... We escaped.

He took a break from the keyboard after that, and I did most of the work. Going in water, solving the puzzles, and surviving a brute... The brute part we had a problem with, as it glitched; we could not use the needle, and the HUD did not even recognize it. We stood there for thirty minutes, before we reloaded an auto-save far back in the Morgue, and it worked just fine. Only problem in the game we encountered. The brute was easy to past, though.

Then we went to the sewers... I gave my friend the controller. He did well, aurviving all the way until the Brutes that guard the ladder. Then my Amnesia was cured: I remembered that I went past the prison! I did not even remember it, and I was hit by it after when we went to the sewers. My memory flashed with me going in the sewers and farther and near before... But, after I got home... That's for later.

I remembered how to past the brute, and I remember trying to go threw the door, and I died before I even could. Which is strange... I remember dying like that before, too. I went up the ladder and doors without even a chance Tge second time, which is also how I remembered it too. When I went to the top, inside the Nave, I went threw the entire thing with a somewhat confused path, not really knowing where to go... Even though I had past it before. I went threw the game, and I was champion of stealth when It came to one of the torture areas and brutes/grunts; I was never found, only dying by accidentally falling off a cliff twice. My friend was impressed, saying I was a bad ***... I remembered my trek being the same before too, but I never remembered even coming here before when I played... Not even the part of leaving the prison area, as I remember stopping... I never remembered going any farther before hand.

So, after I collected the six pieces, and got subdued after being confused as of how to save a life, I ended up In a cell. I remembered this part, and I remembered escaping... But I did not know how, and I was doing what I remembered: playing with the gaping hole and trying to open a gate... To no avail. I remembered dying here... It repeated itself again. I died in agony, trying to escape, trying to survive. Then, I remembered the other times I died. Perhaps it was meant to happen, I thought. I forgot how I escaped before, and the red flesh was consuming my cell. My thought was that I would be resurrected again... So I stopped, and waited. I took over 10 minutes for it to kill me. Then, I died. No respawnable was given. I remember also jumping and having trouble at the cell before... But I did not remember not respawning. I was hit with confusion and somewhat defeat.

I resurrected my character with a continue, and I looked around. Then, I looked in the wiki for information, as I could not find it, then it hit me like bricks: the wall! I took the pipe, chiseled my way out with a hammer, and escaped. I had a little strife finding the key, but I found it in five minutes. When I left the cell area, a word hit me that bore into my front skull: run. I looked back, and I saw the red mist of a monster, the Shadow, and the music of danger started. I knew what to do. I only hit rocks falling in my path once, but I think it was scripted one way or another. I did not die. I survived. I gave my friend the controls, and got a drink. The way out was easy, and it is not until now that I remember doing it before, which is strange. I remember doing the blood ritual, before the inner sanctum. I did not remember before or after it, but I remember that. I also remember the brute before it. In my memory, it was *** with me; In the game yesterday, it did the same thing. I was in a corner, awaiting my death, and the brute was swinging in front of me... Towards the wrong direction. It was swinging to my left, not my front. After a while of confusion, as well as me not in the mood to try to run away from certain death, it decided to kill me.

We beat the game... We took both endings by reloading back, from putting the head in the portal, and before that destroying the three pillars. With the ending of destroying the pillars, I remembered getting that ending too, of walking to the gate... But I never beat it before. How did I see this before, if I never remembered beating it? I also remember Alexander, and me trying to survive expected attacks from him by hiding in 'safe' areas. They never came, in both cases. After we beaten it, we took a break, and slept until 12 pm today. I went back home, and tried to solve my own amnesia problem...

I never told my friend, as I did not want to egg him any further. Plus, I wanted him to feel fear, as I intended to. Today, I looked at my old save files, and I looked to see the year of 2011, when I last played it... The last save was what confused me the most... It stopped at the second area of the prison! I loaded it, and I was in the room with the rotten apples and pigs. I was confused. I thought that perhaps I saw videos, but I removed that idea immediately; I would never watch commentary any further than how far I went, because I like the element of suprise... But I never was, at all. I was very calm, which is strange... I was not calm before, when i first played it. The second time, I was ready and prepared to go threw the game, and I had a grasp of the game that was strong enough that my heart never raced from anxiety. But my memory... Perhaps it is from a dream, or me remembering the future... I don't know. My mind is sore from thinking about it, and my nose rim feels like it is about to pop off.

My head aches... Maybe I will remember better tomorrow.

Hm. Interesting read, to say the least. silly

I don't think I'll ever muster the courage to play Amnesia. I'm currently finishing Dead Space 2, and that's enough for me.

Well, fear was not what Amnesia gave me, but it was the best in terms of horror, compared to anything, including movies. I will say with dignity, that the anxiety it gave me was overwhelming when I first played. Other games? No. Movies? I guessed a lot, and I have had some anxieties, but not as much as Amnesia. Still...

My head feels better now. Lordran fixed it, as well as a monster drink. I may have killed some brain cells doing it, but screw it, me and Dark Souls had a good times together, killing all the bosses by myself with an Axe. 8)

Yes... perhaps I may find some new content for Amnesia in the future. I feel like i am not finished with it just yet, I feel. Don't know why. Perhaps I can make something out of it.

It sounds like this game messes with your head. I've never played it but would give it a go if the oppo arose, although my head is quite messed up enough.

lol It is meant to mess with your head. Although, after I looked at some people on youtube play this, I realize how much worse they are in playing it than my friends were...
