I did an 8-bit arrangement of Gwyn, Lord of Cinder:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=drsBKBZ1q3o

With the right tools, you can play the track back on an actual NES (.nsf file included in video descrption. sounds better without youtube compression). happy

I swear I've heard that song in an old Final Fantasy game or something! :suspect:

I think there might be a song from the Final Fantasy 3 soundtrack (the original Famicom game, not 3/6 on the SNES) that has a kind of similar 'stuttering' volume envelope. The one that I totally overused on the main voice. winking

    Ah nice!
    What did you use?
I've used Plogue Chipsounds in past for 8-bit sounds, Worth checking out if you're into that sound.
If its good enough for Flying Lotus it's good enough for me :-)

I used famitracker. It's an incredible piece of software if you can get comfortable with the tracker format, and have a windows OS.

I haven't gotten to use Plogue Chipsounds, but from what I've seen it's by far the best VST for chipmusic.

I haven't made any updates in a while, but if anyone's interested I have a blog that explains (in easy to understand ways) how NES audio works, and a lot of the different sound design tricks that went into old game music: http://retrogameaudio.tumblr.com/

I would like to try some more DaS 8-bit, but my ear isn't the best for transcribing and I've only been able to find sheet music for Gwyn's theme. If more sheet music turns up, it'll make things a lot easier for me. happy
