going insane
I know its madness and everyone will probably flip by this being asked for the hundredth million time but i had to ask as ive just recently found out about this and can't seem to get any motivation to do anything else in dks .Has anyone discovered anything about the pendant or the bowls at the kiln nothing seems worth doing at the moment as long as this is unanswered so please save me from going insane and help a brother out.

Re: going insane
The pendant is obviously an allegory for Jesus' inspiration upon the films of Orson Welles, and how they would shape Western World Sci-Fi in response to the earlier cold war distinctions between the US and the USSR as they both worked towards a space race against one another, in turn forcing great advancements in technology mimicking the amount of information discovered in game in reflection of the fruitless efforts of our goal and in turn a notable split of our tactics bringing forth wealth in other vessels. We just haven't landed on the moon yet.

I was just kidding when I typed that, but now I'm wondering if I really was. I think I've gone hollow too.

That's actually a lot more sane than half our posts Tolvo. That thought will probably keep me up at night for awhile.....

Re: going insane
The son of a god disappearing, the symbolism of a spear in relation as well as the cross guards of the swords that represent him. Oh boy, even if From didn't intent it, there is a lot of christian symbolism in game.

Judging how this is based off of Medival Europe, I am sure they intended it well

Re: going insane
Yeah probably, though the Sumerian influences I find to be a lot more interesting, or was it Semitic? Well in either case, one mythos does have the exact same god of war in it, exact.

I like the recognition of old Romanic religions before Christianity as well as the othe attachments to cultures that had influenceto Europe one way or another, including Asian influence

Re: going insane
Yeah, all in all the cultural references in game are pretty nice, I was always a fan of Gothic architecture as well but that's an extremely common theme anyway.

Gothic is usually a popular theme for the serious Medival

Have you ever taken a peek at the linking internal and external lore thread Acidic? It's got some pretty interesting stuff in there, I'll admit though I'm not too big on the eastern stuff.

Re: going insane
I skimmed it a few times to see. It is good on giving depth of how much the director put into the setting and lore of dark souls. Gives a good grasp of his understanding.

Yeah, though I don't think it will entirely help us in actually finding anything in game. It's very cool to see the inspiration to the piece, but I feel you always have to look at the piece to understand every part of it rather than outside sources. Still cool though.

Re: going insane
stealing humanity and souls from other beings is hardly christian and speaking as one the game has major satanic undertones to it more than anything else but still fun

Satanism is technically a sect of Christianity. The theistic ones at least.

Re: going insane
It is cool... I hope you realize that when I did the search for lore the use of external references was minimal. Such things including the blue kite shields and the symbol they have is not exactly the same as that of the symbol of mercury nor medicine to the exact, rather in the game itself its own meaning.
The game has a good way of showing similarity of our world and Dark Souls, yet it has it's own story and ideals as well.

Re: going insane
Yeah I agree, gives it that very lived in feel, rather than it just being a mirror of ours it stands on its own two feet. It's a beautiful painting that we like to examine, rather than a mirror to stare too deeply into.

Exactly... And it is a very large painting with a lot of detail, and many miss such details and see what pops out from it

Re: going insane
The Zenians, of all the cultures, is the most interesting of them all. Their knowledge and tools they have are fascinatingly advanced compared to the rest. They even have an impact on Lordran that many overlook, including relations to dragon families andirons they are not known to have, including a particular shield in the forest.
