Is the Sorcerer Overpowered?

Hello everyone, I am interested in Dark Souls and I am going to get it soon, and I like the sorcerer class. I know people say that class does not matter later in the game, but before that, is it overpowered? Will it be like royalty in demon's souls (spamming), and will it be considered trolling in PvP? I really don't want to piss anyone off (the game is already hard enough, if Demon's souls is any indicator). Are there spells I should not use in order to avoid being branded as a troll? Any advice on the matter would be great! Thank you!

P.S. If you want to (and it would be a big help to me), please tell me your opinion on Sorcerer VS Cleric VS Pyromancer. Thanks!

No class to me is overpowered. Some classes have early advantages in-game, but as you level up it all evens out in the end.

If there's heavy lag, then I find sorcerors to be very strong. But there's counters to everything. Honestly I find Faith users worse (DMB, Sunlight Blade, WoG spam, TWoP) but there's counters to everything.

For PvE yes.

Sorcery is capable of dishing out serious damage, but is very hard to hit people with.
People more complain about getting killed about Miracle and Pyromancy-Users.
I still still see people whine about magic being over powered, but its damage is what makes up for me being able to be half dead IRL and still dodge it.

You can kill Gwyn with 4 HSMs, you can get past the TotG without even trying - easily taking 0 damage, Ornstein & Smough have no chance against mages, etc...

I haven't heard people complaining of Pyromancy yet; I've never had an issue wiht it personally. Great Combustion is the one that's good, haven't seen much else that's impressive

Great Chaos Fireball in the hands of someone competent or Fire Tempest can lead to duels ending very early. But pyromancy is pretty fairly balanced.

Sorcery hits like a ton of bricks late in game, but you've limited uses AND you have to pick your shots well.

Fire surge can be a very fun pyromancy to use. I just spin around in circles and make a nice little flame circle

I see every class as being equal because they will always have weeknesses. The sorcerer may be a good starting class to get past some bosses but like any game things get harder and you need to find better strategies.

As for pvp, using spells can be very tricky. They are easy to dodge and easy to block with the right armor and shields. Plus if someone uses great magic barrier there is no way you are hitting them. Looking past the negatives, magic is very effective on most peoples builds if you can hit them. A well placed crystal soul spear will deal tons of damage.

So basically the sorcerer class can be good for pve and pvp but you need to know how to use it effectively.

Pyro is the most versatile, in my opinion. Really good with dex weapon melee also, and it's probably got the longest list of useful PvP spells. Try all the caster classes though. They've all got their ups and downs.

In PVP most Sorceries will only connect if you ambush the other player, any seasoned PVPer will sidestep sorcery like it isn't even there.

That said, I occasionally get a lucky CHSM to hit, and with my Int it's almost always a 1HK.

Sorcerer is one of the weakest starting classes due to low vitality/endurance and subpar armor, shield and weapon. Their only advantage is that they start with soul arrow, which isn't very strong. Pyromancers are far more "OP" from the start as they get an item not available till later in the game, and for a new player that is many, many hours. Anything special the sorcerer has can be bought from Rickert by a Pyromancer or any other class. A knight who has the best starting equipment can easily buy the items and simply put a few points into int/att and be more powerful.



Sorcery in general however is very OP for pve. Pyro can be as well, but more for the fact that you can maximize it's power without investing any stat points. Sorcery requires very high int in order to take advantage of the better spells why Pyromancy only requires you spend souls to upgrade your glove.

I thought you could buy a catalyst and soul arrow from the smith in new londo?

My original character was a sorcerer. it is easy to start the game with, and if you want you can always focus on vit or str at the start. however i find sorcerer realy good in pve due to his realy strong range attack that cost almost no time to cast and realy bad in pvp because people can dodge you very very easly

Yeah, Rickert sells you all that. Which is why, provided my character at least has normal Intelligence, i.e., not a Cleric or a Bandit, that is almost always what I spend my souls from the Asylum Demon fight on whenever I get to Firelink.

Pyromancer's have good starting gear, but IMO you're better to rely on your weapons instead of spending your souls buffing your pyromancy. Gets expensive fast, is very short range, and doesn't lvl you up (thus, you don't get extra defence like a sorcerer would focusing on lvling up INT).

Magic = Spells goes FORWARD so a roll left or right WILL dodge them unless they are BOOM on IMPACT spells (Hit something behind you = Boom)

Pyromancy = Fireballs are slow and ALOT of them are affected HEAVY by Gravity so unless the user is over you, you shoulden't have so much problem getting away, Area affect spells are SLOW so just run like a madafaka

No. I feel like a frail piece of glass (glass canon!) when I see the warriors just walking around tanking hits and spamming their weapons without locking on lol. I like the class moreso because I usually play as magic users and like that style of play.

And it's very rewarding to get big damage after dodging and saving my ammo for a big fight.

For AoE, it's either escape if you're far enough, or go for the BS if you're too close)

Faith = Beat to a pulp. Simple and effective counter.

I don't use Faith so someone else can fill that in.
