Offhand weapon choice

dex/faith build user using the balder as my main weapon (moveset just owns). However, I cannot make up my mind as to use a shotel as my second weapon or the demons spear. Opinions and advice?

use the whip or estoc.

I've never tried an off-hand Estoc. Anything special about it?

Any significance to the whip or estoc as another weapon choice? I know shotel allows me to bypass turtles and demons spear is amazing for the reach/poke and roll if im getting ravaged by a laggy character.

whip has a fast parry and cant be parried which is good for parry spammers since you can roll L1 and theyre still gonna parry spam. the estoc has good chip damage on your off hand and its the longest rapier which makes it hard to parry if you dont get too close.

Only the shotel R2 can bypass a shield. The R2 can't be used when off handing.

I would advice you to learn how to Quickly switch your Weapons because there are many good Dex Weapons with unique effects .
The Gold Tracer has good Damage is Fast and causes Bleed , while the Shotel lets you bypass Shields with its Strong Attack and the Scytes are also a good Weapon class .

Really now, you have endless options . Just play around until you find something that suits you (like a suit)

second right hand i'd go for shotel then put the demon spear in an offhand slot.. i'm one of those who enjoys having a few nifty tricks and surprises

Orn spear. I use that off handed and use washing pole for my right. Both long reach weapons. They may not be the highest damage out put weps in the game but they sure are very darn effective. Especially against BS fishers, parry fishers, rolling bs, and magic spammers. If you are very proficient in rolling attacks and counter this style is just about unbeatable. And if you really want to be a jerk buff washing with darkmoon or sunlight. They sure will hate you for it. Just my opin

Backup weapons are just as subjective as your primary weapon--it's all up to your own playstyle. Ideally, pick something that complements your primary.

Since you're planning on using the BSS, a quick weapon that also has a stab attack, out of the two you mentioned I'd suggest the Shotel. Spears are excellent at dealing damage while keeping you out of harm's way, but you can already do that quite well with a BSS. The BSS's weakness, though, is turtles, and a spear will definitely not help you there! So I'd go for the Shotel, to complement the BSS.

Its true though you must pick a weapon more suitable to your play style but again due to the new magic in place turtling it not as difficult to deal with. Dark flame pretty much makes it much more easier to deal with. A couple of blast of DF in the face of a turtler then a blast of wrath to keep them honest and you definately will see their backs while they turn and run from you. Fought a couple earlier and broke their guard easy with DF then finished them off with my Orn spear and washing pole. Or back off and use poison throwing knives and get them while they try to heal. Not that difficult to counter every style in the game now, its implementing them in game play on the fly that is the trick. Some can and some cant. It takes a little time and experiance to be more comfortable in countering on the fly. But once you master this your on your way to being a very dangerous veteran player. Just my opin
