For what it's worth, the only review site I trust anymore because it doesn't go by the stupid 8-10 rating system gave it a positive reccomendation. I've not played it yet myself, but some of the talk here, Yahtzee's "positive" criticism (you could tell he was less cynical than other times winking), and my own desire to try something new-ish are raising my interest in giving it a shot.

Just to be clear, I thought Dragon's Dogma was very meh until about 10 hours in, after my first legit miniboss fight (the prologue one didn't mean much to me 'cause I knew those characters were rented). I'm one of those players that vacuums up every random object they can carry, so it took me hours just to leave the first village and get started. But once I got more comfortable with combat dynamics and character development the game really started to shine. I also really like how quickly the areas reset (ideal for those of us that love loot gathering) and how much changes at night. You can breeze through a generic grassy area filled with rabbits during the day, and then go back through it at night with your lanterns and get pancaked by a flying lich. It's awesome.

The ambiance is excellent on par with Dark Souls IMO but a different vibe.

Like befowler said, once you get a hang of the combat and some of the other things that take some learning the game does shine.

Plus if one of your friends gets a hold of you pawn you might surprised how decked out it comes back LOL

    Thanks Bioraptor!!!

I'm very used to his reviewing, I can tell when he thinks a game is good or bad now based upon his reviews silly

That is a very decent review but I do not share in some of his main complaints. I don't mind walking around and exploring and collecting. It is actually very relaxing.

Except at night when you really can't see very far. You are always waiting for the sun to come back up. That is really cool.

I can agree with that night is scary unless you are a light wielding paladin such as my self but the night time is interesting and add A whole new category of enemies to fight but at the 75% mark of the game crazy monsters come out and everything is dark and grim reminded me of Dark Souls but I would recommend the game to fans of large open world rpg gamers

^Dont get the 75% mark at level 41. You die so quickly.
