Halberds Good or Bad?

Ok so I recently started using the Gargoyle Halberd and ever since I started i've been kicking peoples ***. I don't know why maybe it's because of pvp style of the burg idk. They have amazing range and pretty damn good damage. I see barely anyone ever use a halberd though (at least in the burg) so I wanted to get your guys views on this type of weapon.

I actually prefer the standard halberd, but the G. halberd is a good weapon. A bit predictable though, it doesn't have much variation in its attack pattern and it's easy to dodge. It also leaves the user a bit open.

The G.Halberd is extremely good, and it only gets better as you learn when to land your hits. two hand the beast and then use your R2 to punish bs fools.

Hmm I'm actually going to try the reg Halberd later on whenever I get a chance.

As primarily a Greatsword and Katana User, I can say I've been killed by a Halbred, more than a few times.

It's like the heavy weapon version of a spear. It leaves the user kind of open and requires some good timing, but it hits harder and can be really good if you dodge well. It has all the G. hal's r2's too, so it should be familiar to you.

Aye, since alot of people stick to what they're used to, halberd's will always have a bit of surprise, like the running attack's frames carry on till you completely stop.

I never felt comfortable using that, it leaves me wide open to bs and parries.

I've found it comes in handy when you mix backflips with normal flips. Think I'm gonna sweep? Surprise chop!

Haha yeah I run upto peoples face waiit for them to attack roll backwards and smack them with my G.Halberd

Normal Halberd is the only one I consider good, The thrust attack does about 300 HP (I'm serious, that thing hits too hard). I prefer using scythes though, I'm a beast using them.

G. Halberd is probably the best weapon I use when the host I'm working with is invaded. I'm not very into PVP so I never knew that halberds aren't very used, I guess it explains why I'm able to win against invaders. Backstab is still one of my biggest enemies against invaders though (although I think it's an enemy of every player) parry is rather uncommon when I'm fighting invaders though.

.No, it's just that pretty much any time before SL 80 pvp a Chaos +5 or Light +5 G.hal will take away 1 to two thirds of an invader's health with one swing. It's crazy powerful on elemental paths before people get maxed equipment.

That would explain a lot on my part seeing as I'm only SL 34 and have a G. Halberd +4 Lightning.

I used to always use the G.Halberd and had some pretty good success with it as well as the regular scythe.

Just wondering though, Is the 2nd hit of the 2H R2 parryable? I always try on the rare occasions I fight against one but can never land it

I wouldn't say no, some attacks are actually impossible to parry, that might be one of them but it should be tested before we can say for sure.

I've parried it Mamba, I've parried everything haha. Though yeah, the timing window for that move is kind of annoying.

The Garg Halberd is a very nice weapon, especially since when you attack you actually extend the range mid swing, causing the weapon to appear like it hits shorter tan it really does, making it easy to catch people when they believe they are safe. The only issue is getting parried. Also this is a great weapon for criticals, since it has very high damage at the base, meaning it makes for a great elemental weapon.

The scaling looks like meh at first but at 40/40 it's actually pretty strong, and you can buff on top of it. That sort of strategy is best saved for the higher levels though, it's really difficult to have high scaling and buffing stats on a 120 or lower.

Also if people are trying to BS you, there are two reasonably simple strategies. After you do your R1 attack instead of waiting for a second to do another first part of the combo, unlock from your enemy and start the second part of the R1 combo. Immediately turn around to swing at your back and sides, this will hit them as they BS you with their lagstab. When a person is hit as they backstab, you still get stuck in the animation but you take no damage. The other trick is the same, except when two handing. Pres R2, and turn around to hit them as they try to BS you.

By the way with this weapon, you do not want to use the Combos of it, instead wait a half a second after each first attack or so before attacking, so you are doing your longer range faster attack.

.More good advice Tolvo, the delayed second overhead pound can really catch the opponent off guard.

ive been using the regular halberd for a day now and im loving it so far!

Maybe I should make a guide for every weapon...As I catalog every single useful image that needs to be taken in game...While running the resources thread...And directing people from the introduction thread...And diffusing possible flame wars...As well as....Why am I doing all of this?
