Is this your first playthrough? Warrior. Wanderer requires more finesse and you can't just bash through shield guards. Warriors can.
My favourite starting classes:
Cleric, Bandit, Pyromancer.
For a new player, I would recommend:
Knight, Bandit, Warrior I think. Stronger armour, stronger weapons to break through shields until you get a better grasp of manoeuvring for position.

It depends on too much data to give you an accurate answer, but a quick version is, magic yes? Then Wanderer, if no, then Warrior.

PS: If this is your first playthrough, STAY AWAY from the wiki's, the how-to videos... it'll ruin the difficulty and thus the experience of Dark Souls.
