Not in my experience, its that each point of durability takes longer to be depleated for crystal then it does for normal.
I haven't formally tested this though, so take it with a grain of salt.

I think weapons with +15 durability are worth of crystal upgrade.

yea 8 durability is a little ridiculous on the low side, i never paid attention to durability loss but how long would 8 even last
