Gravelord Greatsword Dance ?
Do any of you use this successfully in PVP. I've hit with it a couple of times with poor results. Any advise? I'm +3 GL at 14 faith.

Re: Gravelord Greatsword Dance ?
Try using it in tight quarters like in the forest at alvina. Run past the bridge and lure your enemy and wait around the corner to surprise them with a nasty aoe.
Also works great with the firestorm pyromancy.

Re: Gravelord Greatsword Dance ?
Besides what BamJam said I use it if the opponent is backed into a corner or wall where it is difficult for him to run away.
I have on occasion used the thumbstick and have seemingly guided the sword where my last hit lands.
I don't know which one and I often forget to do it because I usually use in close quarters
I also combo it with TWoP, but with your faith you won't be able to do it.

You can always cast it after backstab.

Definitely a noteworthy miracle but I think it is often forgotten/neglected because of how much of a pain in the butt it is to obtain

Re: Gravelord Greatsword Dance ?
Similar strategy as tempest. I've used it, its strong (don't remember how strong) but its enough for serious damage, more so with the dusk crown and ring of suns first born, but you're going to want to get int (for velkas talismine) or faith to at least 30.
Things to remember are that the swords arn't completely random, there is a high concentration that spreads outward in a cone in the direction your facing, and that it can and will hit 2 or 3 times, making it great for wrecking turtles.

Dont forget to use the thorolund tali or velka's(?) (the int scaling tali) for max damage.

Re: Gravelord Greatsword Dance ?
I think people take the wrong approach with AoE casts like that. Instead hoping they'll just stand there and eat it or walk right into it, bring it to them. Lock off, run right up in their face and start casting, then turn around at the end of the warm up to avoid the BS.

was going to say exactly that.. minus the bs part haha
but also, remember that the cast doesn't telegraph as much as fire tempest. if you run up to them while you're winding it up, depending on how aware they are you can pull it off much more frequently than tempest/storm.

you need a fair amount of poise or some one will just 2hand R1 spam you till it cancels.

Re: Gravelord Greatsword Dance ?
It's like any other attack in that sense really. You try to eff 'em up, but maybe in the process you get effed up. It helps that you can move while casting, so it's not as though you've got to get in position and then start casting. You start it outside their range, and by the time you're in it, sh*t's halfway there. By that time you eat maybe one hit, which is a small price to pay considering what it dishes out.

Re: Gravelord Greatsword Dance ?
I like your aggressive attitude with the spell DamageCK. I've been using it passively. Never thought to use it otherwise. I will do a little practicing with it to see how far I move before the spell casting starts and also watch for the size of the cone. Then give it a whirl.

Re: Gravelord Greatsword Dance ?
There's a dude I play with all the time who uses Tempest the same way, which is what got me started on it. His explanation was simply "Instead of hoping they come to me, I bring it to them". He was featured in one of Marty's "vs SomePlayer" vids not too long ago. You'll know it's the right guy from the constant pyro abuse. Haha. Pretty sure he does it in there if you're looking for an example. It's actually really difficult to punish if done properly.

Re: Gravelord Greatsword Dance ?
Its especially deadly if they don't see you start the cast, running around corners and pillars is a great way to get hits.

Re: Gravelord Greatsword Dance ?
I do this. If in a fight and I take hits, I back off and circle a tree with them on the otherside while casting. Usually surprises them.

lol its cool man, reps are not that important. but yea its risk reward, and i would say it will work majority of the time.
Some ones first instinct when they see the cast is to either A. Run, or B. Backstab, and if you are spinning to not allow it they will probably hesitate long enough for you to cast.
you have to remember though just because you got the cast off it doesn't mean the enemy is hit, i have had my cast stopped early before from stagger because none of the pillars hit my enemy and he started swinging.
but you are right its risk reward, and that is most likely the best way to use fire tempest (with the cheap exceptions, behind a corner/after BS)

Re: Gravelord Greatsword Dance ?
If someone follows you around a blind corner, they deserve the ambush. Situational awareness is important, its better to let someone run and risk them healing than it is to run face first into a trap.

Re: Gravelord Greatsword Dance ?
Provided it's a trap at all. But then, that's the draw, isn't it? Maybe I AM healing. I mean, I'm not, but they don't know that. So if they walk into my trap, I'm not going to feel cheap for orchestrating the situation.

Re: Gravelord Greatsword Dance ?
exactly, if you heal you may have an advantage but they can still fight back and they can use the time tp heal or buff themselves, but if you arn't healing then they're probably going to be 0hkod with a bs or cast.
