Using DSfix any adverse side effects? Empty Using DSfix any adverse side effects?

    Post by SuperHans28 Wed Sep 19, 2012 12:07 pm

Does using the DSfix patch cause any issues? I would like to install it, but if it's going to add more/new bugs/glitches I'd rather not.

I've read around that it can cause blurred text glitches among other things. Just wondering if there's some specific settings so that it doesn't cause any new issues?

    Thanks

It has MANY odd little quirks. Strange lines across text and sometimes my game refuses to load until I remove the DSfix then readd it in. Also, my DkS refuses to run without DSfix now :/

The lines across the text are purposeful. At least that is what I saw on utube. They are put there to show the mod is working.

DsFix used to crash when I exited fullscreen, but this was a known bug. Updating resolved this issue.

I haven't had a single adverse issue since I installed. Just read the read me file and you should be fine.

    hello

i used an older version, my game crashed several times and i ended up loosing my savegame and had to start all over again - rip str/int build... i'm not sure if i should blame the fix though.
atm i'm using version 1.1 and i'm very happy with it. it never crashed and i completed the game today.
i really have to say that dsfix is just amazing. the game looks great and i for sure wouldn't play the pc version at all without it.

I've been using it since 0.1 and it works perfect. No flaws, no bugs, no glitchs, no problems. Keep in mind that because it alters the internal resolution (it makes textures look better) it eats more GPU resources and will probably drop some FPS unless you have a good PC.

It works perfect. Also since version 1.3 you can make the HUD transparent, reduce it, with some minimal bugs. It's toggable so you could try it, and if you don't like it, in-game you just press a key you set, and the hud gets to normal.

I have yet to have a single problem with the DSFix. I thought I had a problem before, but it turned out to be GFWL had an update and it wasn't informing my machine of such, thereby causing my game to wig out whenever it wanted to contact the server.

Simply logging into GFW Marketplace fixed the entire ordeal (After two hours of trouble shooting)

As long as you keep AA and Blur off, you have no issues with most video cards. Turning them on (As documented) runs the risk of an error, but it's not guaranteed.

Minor issues I have had (but the benefits far outweigh any negatives these may bring)
    - In Anor Londo, I get weird banding in some areas that have shadows - on the rotating bridge/etc. Very minor, doesn't impact game play at all
    - Darkroot Garden - now and then the screen just stops re-drawing and I need to walk back a step or two to where the glitch started and move again for things to sync back up. Happens very rarely

Outside of those two things, game looks stellar, runs silky smooth and haven't had any other glitches - and none that have really negatively impacted my game-play. This is haven taken 4 characters through most of the main game + the DLC content,

It's not necessary to turn off Blur in the last versions of DSFix.

Just installed the 1.4 version and I'm surprised on how much better it does look. Bit confused what the DOF triangle means, but I've set it to 810 because it can't be 1080 if I'm using 1080 x 1920 for the internal render right?

Does it cause any issues with the online play? I've just been trying to summon someone and haven't been able to find their sign.

    Edit. It worked eventually.

DOF stands for depth of field. Last version of fix runs no problem, and by adjusting dof you get much nicer views in the distance. Looks really detailed but eats more resources. Haven't noticed any drops.
Minor bugs with some textures or something but nothing distracting. I jumped from 1.1 to 1.4. Hints on the floor are now readable.

Yeah, I've had a play around with the settings. Found I have to have SSAO off otherwise it causes a strange glitch where sometimes the screen will freeze and blend with the actual game.

Nice to know. Haven't fiddled with anything other than DOF and that pretty much sealed the deal for me, but I'll eventually try it out.
Mr. dsfix man, wherever you are, thanks a bunch. happy

By the way, adjusting the DOF is - if I'm not mistaken - the same as adjusting the resolution, therefore you can have 1920 X 1080 in it too. That's what I use.

Ah think that's what mine was doing. Test the settings and it was the SSAO that was causing it, so I turned it off. Have the DSfix AA on Ultra though and it runs fine on my PC.

Really? It just said in the ini that it shouldn't be the same as your verticle resolution, so was guessing it couldn't be the same.

This is from the dsfix file where you adjust values. I'm running fix 1.4

    # Depth of Field resolution override, possible values:
    # 0 = no change from default (DoF pyramid starts at 512x360)
    # 540 = DoF pyramid starts at 960x540
    # 1080 = DoF pyramid starts at 1920x1080 (for high end systems)
    # 2160 = DoF pyramid starts at 3840x2160 (if you have an utterly insane ultra high end PC)
    # higher values will decrease performance
    dofOverrideResolution 1080

    I set it to 1080 which should be 1920 X 1080.
Not too sure about that vertical stuff, what I do know is that my game looks really pretty.

Strange since I'm also running 1.4. Maybe something to do with monitor settings...

Late answer, but I got 2 blue screen using the fix. I can't really tell if it's because of the fix, but in 150 hours I didn't have any trouble at all. In 20 hours with the fix, I got 2 BS and some crashed games.
