Post by ikkiDcrow Mon Oct 01, 2012 11:24 am

Why is it that people prefer to play low levels? I see don't like going beyond 120 or around there. Yesterday was pvping and went from 193 to 227. Kept invading a guy in darkroot garden by bonfire who had 2 black phantoms In his world dueling each other (boosting?) and I bum rushed them with soul spear for an easy 1 mil souls from phantoms, host killed me though did it again for a total of 4mil. What am I suppose to do with so many souls? only downside is harder to find summon signs.

I think at SL 120 it gets quite expensive to level up a single stat!
Also characters aren't as varied at higher level if I'm not mistaken?

    Everyone can do everything basically.

120 range is a good range for PvP. Once you start going much higher, you really don't have a stronger character, you can do more attacks, that's it. It has to do with diminishing returns.

For example, take a dex weapon. You put your dex at 40 and it's power is essentially maximized. Add on a buff, (int or faith, max 50), and that is maximized. Going above those numbers really doesn't add anything.

    Take this build: http://tinyurl.com/8eorw2q
Uchi damage is maximized, you have DMB, SLB, and WoG, all essentially maximized. Adding End won't add stamina, Vitality won't significantly improve above 50. All at SL 146. You have essentially maxed your character. If you want max casting speed, add 5 more dex. Your level will be 151.

And if you see a host with 2 phantoms fighting (the host not fighting), they are probably doing duels. Setting up one on one fights. Don't rush them. Wait until one dies, and the winning phantom will take you on.

Now that I've started to play at lvl 100...I really think that is the way to go, every build has to make sacrifices and that's the way I like it. On higher levels it just gets boring when you can have everything.

That's^ the mentality I don't understand. I respect it, but I don't really understand it. (I mean I respect the search for the perfect, minimal build.) To me, having many options is the opposite of boring.

What I like so much about my sl 200 guy is that he has so many options: 50 str (in case I want to 1-hand a couple str weaps), 40 dex, and 50 faith. I've done about 7 playthroughs on him (on the pc), but will probably keep going indefinitely, maxing out all kinds of weapons/gear. Between invasions I can completely switch "builds" on him if the urge strikes me.

Because you don't display any weaknesses, that's what makes it boring.
    It's not build, it's 5 builds.

But you can only use 1 at a time. Still not sure I understand, but that's hardly a first.

You can still stack lot's of hp/defence/poise on any build + spells etc. so 0% sacrifice made...to me it's just not interesting.

Nothing. Souls are not important after you reach your goals.

Its boring because there's no build variety in the people you fight. Everyone is flipping Giant's or Havels with 2K HP and either the GSoA or the DSS once you get to level 300 or so. Or they buff the WP with DMB, which kills you so fast it's not even funny. At SL100 every build is different, so there's more variety in the people you fight. You can just make four SL100's, one Str, one Dex, one Int, and one Faith, and you have all the variety you want.

BLASPHEMY. and another thing, what's the point of specializing in one build if everyone that PVPs just try to backstab. (which I never do)

You are clearly still not deep enough in PvP.
Stop doing PvP in the forest or Kiln and learn bs-counter techniques. What are you going to do with your souls when you hit the max lvl? the same thing you do with them when you hit 100 or whatever you are going for.

True enough. Unless you're planning on upgrading indefinitely, which would probably take you into the 400's, you may as well stop when you feel your build is complete.

Max out all gear, get dlc, max out all dlc gear.
I pvp in forest because it's quicker to get a match but no matter where I tried to invade/ get invaded they always went for the backstab

If they go for the backstab use the counter backstab techniques.
Backstab is not the whole PvP and you'd know this if you'd PvP at proper PvP-level and ditch the forest.

Whether I'm being invaded with my sl 451 or 55, it's all the same: about 60% katana users, and then the rest. The only Giant/MoM/Flip stereotypes I've personally seen have been in the 120-150 range, but they don't bother me. Often they're strength, and I love running into anything that isn't a katana.
