No HUD playthrough...? Seriously?

Just saw this japanese guy do a playthrough video with HUD off. OFF. Can't even see what spells you're casting. I'd love to share, but its japanese in a japanese version of youtube and you need an account to see videos.

The point is, japanese people are hardcore.

How do you even disable the HUD?

but that would be crazy, you'd literally have to heal after every hit, or estimate damage you can take.. how is that even possible?! :x

Epic Name Bro's youtube channel has him beating many of the bosses without a hud or healing. He made these challenges to make the game harder.

yeah i've seen epic name bro's boss fights, but an entire run is kinda unheard of..

Tomb of the Giants would be horrible, the skellies do deceptive amounts of damage :|

Yeah, an entire run would be hard. It's not the damage, but not even knowing what item or spell you have ready could be fatal. Even with a HUD, how many times have we died because we tried to use an estus only to find that we had a moss or something active.

Thats why i bet the guy did a pure Melee, or if not just a single spell (most likely heal) using talisman in off hand and only left his estus equipped, thats what i'd do anyway since i dont really care for moss and stuff like that.

The thing is that you'll get poisoned in this game.. it's inevitable. And most of the time, you don't have the time to get into the menu and use the moss.

i find time honestly, i never equip moss usually, and with poison when do you get poisoned when you're too busy to menu-moss? i cant think of any time like that..

I think he presses start. And buys stuff and levels up and everything. Just no friggin idea what you have up your sleeve that's all.

Im gonna do this. Looks fun.

One of the biggest disadvantages of turning the HUD off, which few people even realize, is that it also turns off notification that you've locked on. No little white circle on your enemy. THAT was the biggest pain any time I tried it.

I usually notice the lock-on by how I move

A no hud playthrough would be fun. Really force you to focus on every little movement of the enemies and your own character. Plus it's more immersive in my opinion when you remove the visual clutter.

Playing without a HUD isn't too bad. Just stick to melee and use only an estus flask. Even if you want to use a 2nd or 3rd item slot it wouldn't be that hard to simply make it a habit to always go back to your estus after using any item.


If people are interested in challenging play throughs I just finished up my naked run without armor, shield, elemental weapons, summons, master key or leveling up.

Can't wait till I get home from work so I can watch that^ while I play. I leave Dark Souls playthroughs running continually on my computer while I play the game. Searching on Youtube always ends with the same results, so I hope to find more from this site.

@Akatic. The moss thing, yeah I've done that and used up more valuable stuff by accident too. Now I only have stuff in my inventory that I know I'm going to need, like the Transitory Curse when I go to that ghost infested place. Even then I've found myself hacking at a ghost to no effect because the things run out or healing myself by mistake.

My other favourite dork trick is unequipping my bow to move to a better position, forgetting I've got a sword equipped and lunging forward and over the edge of a cliff or wall to my death. Done this most often at the begining of Sens after I've taken out the serpent mages. I'll never learn.

....basically everything on the screen. Your HP bar, stamina bar, and the cross that shows what is equipped.

I have A dumb question aswell, How the hell do you slide down ladders on PS3, I have tried everything but can never do it >.<
BTT I agree no HUD does make the game much more immersive, I get worried hoe much health I have left without it though, mad some close calls.
