From my understanding.
Downloading 1.06 will update the whole game and the DLC comes with the 1.06 patch. To access the DLC, you will need to buy the access key (100kb download) that will allow you to access the DLC.
Piece of advice, if you are carrying a lot of souls, buy items that will help on the DLC journey because most likely you will die... a lot.

It's on the store now but when you go to access it says the content 'cannot be selected at this time'. Any minute now, surely.

The times could be different, I've heard of some places in the EU already having access to it. I'm using the UK store, been refreshing it like crazy, it's on the front page so it's very noticeable. The image went down a few mins ago shortly but it's up again. It's rather odd.
I'll post next when I'm actually downloading the DLC to avoid any confusion.

I am also a bit annoyed by the new search function. In the past you could search freely, and now you are forced to search as a complete idiot beginning with the first letter, etc.

Exactly. Same for Sarajevo/Bosnia where I'm from. I'm using UK store and got the patch thus PSN update.
Problem is I haven't check store so I don't know is it available. Kid came so it's time to be a father and warrior inside will have to wait a bit ;-)
