Suiciding when invaded?

Well, I just got Dark Souls the other day and wasn't aware of the Invasion mechanic being tied into being Human. Is it considered bad form to suicide and deny a invader a kill? I did so because I hit them once for full damage and their health barely dropped, so I decided to kill myself rather than give them the satisfaction of killing me.

You will always find people who approve most things. For me, I would concider it bad manners if I was the invader since I wouldn't you where new to the game and all that stuff.

Out of interest what level were you?

It's fine, I guess. Plus you're not "denying" them anything, really. They'll still get all of their rewards for your death, so they're not really affected in that sense.

They still get their kill, so it really isn't bad manners. If you don't wish to have a long battle you believe you'll lose, you can jump off. Some invaders might be a bit kind though, so you could be denying yourself help from them.

I'd mainly do it if you feel they are wasting your time. Or if you want to die where you can retrieve your souls and humanity.

Alundil - I don't think it hit close to their home. I believe that they instead just like being courteous - it is good social etiquette, especially on a forum with such widespread viewpoints to not ostracize any members of the community. I know martyrs refers to people with courtesy as "The Honor Brigade" That is not meant to be an insult, it is just a generalization of people who uphold their ethics no matter what the situation etc;

I just think they would prefer you to be a bit more considerate of their opinions in the future and not to be so judgmental.

This isn't intended to be antagonistic - I am just hoping to let you understand why the negative rep was given.

On a note, it is no issue to commit suicide when an invader invades you - though I would suggest just for practice that it would be a nice idea to fight them...

Though if you enjoy being human then I would suggest playing offline.

Nah, not antagonistic at all man. And i'm actually happy, as odd as it may be, that I got that down rep. Made me laugh

But yeh just didn;t want this guy to get convinced by someone to do something the "honourable" way then have one of the people who claim to have some sort of etiquette wog spam him to death cause y'know... he used a specific spell/wep/gesture they don't consider "honourable".

Edit: Oh and btw dude, what you're saying about not ostracizing members because we all have varied viewpoints? Check out the thread in my sig. That thread destroyed any hope I had for considering respecting other peoples opinions here a rule.

I was about level 10ish when I got invaded? It was from the first Bonfire after you get out of the undead asylum.

That would be the Firelink Shrine bonfire. You cannot be invaded there, you must mean the 2nd bonfire after the Asylum.

Yeah, I think that's the one. The one inside of the burg.

i agree with this in not to many words those who play with honor typicaly abandon their so called honor as soon as it suits them and probably only use honor cause they dont know how to deal with "dirty" fights and rage when they feel helpess I only have ever gotten hate mail from those who claim to be honorable but on another note i like the burg for 1v1 and the forest when I want to test my mettle

do whatever you feel you need to do.

i tend to avoid pvp at those levels unless i'm in some good pvp gear personally..

Im not trying to start a heated argument just like you and everyone else Im giving my opinion based on my experiences Ive never fought a "dirty" fighter and have him send hate mail

well it wouldnt make sense for them to do that^ if you believe anything goes, then why would you send hatemail to someone who also believes that? that would be hypocritical.

It's fine to have views, but this is one of those things that in the past has caused a lot of problems. We've had gigantic basically flaming threads come from it. Honor people, Pragmatic people. Both sides would get really angry and just tear into one another. So we're a bit gun shy about that sort of topic.

I will state that I was one of the people whom -ve repped him. I believe I gave a reasonable opinion on the matter. Ash, people will give -ve rep in situations where they feel the persons post was unjust. As a community we just have to learn to live with it.

Bare in mind that everyone has a different phenomenology. They will interpret things differently to how you may interpret it. Qualia will always come into this as everyone gains different feelings when they read things (Jokes,posts,novels). That is why it isn't right to ostracize or call people out for negatively repping someone.
