Mid-roll build viability Empty Mid-roll build viability

    Post by petals18 Tue Nov 13, 2012 2:26 pm

I would like to get some input from people who are running mid-roll builds post patch, are they working for you? If so, what tactics are you using? Or would you recommend just sticking to fast roll builds?

I am wanting to do a black knight build, have some decent armor and big weapons for once, all I seem to do are dex builds recently.

    I had a str/faith pre patch, but then I had the DWGR . . . . . I don't want to get to sl99 and find it's a waste, so opinions/experiences would be appreciated so I can make a decision.

one thing you should keep in mind when you are medioum rolling is never roll if you don't have to. the recovery time for the medioum roll is much larger than the fast roll or the ninja flip. you should also go with high poise armor so you don't get stunlocked.

It's easier if your using a weapon that can maintain distance and has high damage preferably with a good roll move so that your opponent won't try pressuring you then you roll.

I have a high level toon with Murakumo, CMW, and heavy armor at just under 50% weight and I haven't had any issues. Just focus on keeping your ground and only roll to dodge not attack.

Mid roller here. Its fine. You will learn too maneuver with it. High poise is a obvious must but that again with havels ring you can easily wear havels set and be a mid roller.....

    110% viable.
You can have good defences all around, good dmg and good poise at the same time on lvl 100 when midrolling, I usually destroy when I decide to midroll.

EDIT: One thing to be really scared when midrolling though: Dark magic.

You need to get alot of practice against dark magic, ideally both using and receiving in pvp and you can dodge any spell excluding lag. The best tricks I could find is that dark bead won't hit if your strafing and roll sideways at mid to close distance and pursuers can be tricked if you backstep then sidestep and roll forward or back through it while its coming at you diagonally. It seems the invincibility frames on the mid roll continue much closer to the recovery than one would presume.

Mid rolling is very viable but if your giving up mobility you need to get more dmg output in return.....obviously you will be able to stack up poise 53-70 isn't a problem at sl99 to still mid roll....but back to more dmg use 'LEO RING' and a halbert for instance paired with a long sword or Balder swag is a lethal setup!

1 counter poke with a halbert will do more dmg than a BS....of course you need a quality or dex build to use the leo ring...that's really the only time I mid roll!

Oh and like someone else said don't roll much and avoid weapons that have good rolling attacks ect!

The Black Knight Greataxe might be a bad idea, it's one of the easiest weapons to parry so alot of people might not take you seriously.

I tried to get good classy armor and 93 poise but it's very difficult without increasing End past 40. I had to decrease Vit to 40 but a medium roll tank should have high HP for tanking hits. You'll be menu swapping the greatbow btw.
