I have this vision that most of the people on this forum can play the game with a broken sword whilst eating a kebab with one hand and talking to a friend on the phone with the other (okay, a bit far-fetched, but you get the idea ). Please tell me it happens to others.

Does this affect everyone? Some days I breeze through Anor Londo parrying for fun without barely making an effort, yet an hour later struggle with the basics in the Painted World? I seem to somehow lose all co-ordination in some mysterious time zone and it's like I've never played the game before. I can't block, I can't parry, I even get mobbed (and killed ) by a couple of rats! Rats, I say!

it is my firm belief that every once on a while Dark Souls decides that you must die and die you surely will, in the most embarrassing w.t.f. just happened sort of way.

Yep, been there, done that, although it's usually due to my being complacent. You can easily get caught out if you relax your guard even against relatively weak enemies like the hollows on the way to the Belfry and I've been killed by rats too, especially those beggars in the room under the bridge because they mob you.

Anything that gets me off auto-pilot will likely lead to a death. For instance, I MUST learn to use the four pronged plow effectively. Somehow, learning to attack with a new weapon has led to forgetting how to use my shield normally. Wait, what? Ok, got that I guess. Doing good. Now what? I mismanaged my stamina? Crap. Ok, let's try this again. And again. And again

I think this sums it up for me. I swear it's something that the developers put into the game deliberately . Surely I can't be that terrible in such short a time? Thanks guys - at least I'm not the only one. Those snow rats are going to get what's coming to them.

I almost never die when jumping down to Vamos. But a few days ago when I was going to rescue Reah from ToG, I died there with 42 humanity and over 200k souls. On my way to retrieving my bloodstain, I slipped and fell down to my death in Vamos' hole.
It was on a new SL 20 character, so it was kinda big loss.

I know exactly how you feel. I have never died making my way to Vamos, but just a couple of days ago a host asked me to help him and as I followed him down into the hole I was too cautious and fell to my death.

I got raped by those giant Skelis in the tomb where you get the ember. I thought I could kill them with a Grt sword like usual but since 1.06 stunlocking is impossible with those weapons..

I know that feel -.- Today is a day like that.
I was playing on a new character where i just rung the second bell of awakening, and it just took me like an hour to get out of blighttown, because the universe decided to take my skill away so i kept dying before reaching a bonfire ):
(and then respawning at the bonfire in the beginning of the demon ruins. no idea what i was thinking when i decided to rest there)
And when i finally made it to firelink shire, i only had to go a little bit further into undeadburg (firelink was extinguished) aaaaaand i fell off the aquaduct and respawned in the demon ruins... fml

The other day I'd spent ages in Blighttown, defeated Quelaag without using a single Estus Flask, climbed all the way back to the top of Blighttown and cut through Valley of Drakes to get to Firelink to spend my souls, and got a bit carried away - I came charging through New Londo Ruins and plummeted down the empty space where I'd forgotten to pull the lever for the lift back up to Firelink . Another example of rushing and complacency.

Ah the aqueduct of death, I think I hold the record for rolling to my death trying to jump back across to safety. It seems I become unable to jump every time I pick up that Ring of sacrifice, it's ironic really. I died 4 time in a row last night on a new toon, every time I'd jump across grab my bloodstain and roll to my death again...

It's never jumping to, always back so my bloodstains unreachable. It haunts me every time I press roll while running, I still have no idea what makes me roll instead of jump.

@Uparkaam
Also, I've played this game many times. I now know where all of the mimic chest are located. I went through Anor Londo with 2 phantoms. We went to the hidden basement past the fireplace. Then I got eaten by a mimic! The other two phantoms tried to attack it, but they couldn't. Somehow I survived with a hair of health left.
Also, I fought Pharis, and she rolled off the cliff during the fight! Luckly the stuff appeared on the ground when I reloaded. I think the game tried to screw with me.
This is probably one of the best moments. I summoned two phantoms at the begining of Sen's Fortress. I took out the first lightning shooting lizard. Then I triggered and dodged the trap behind it. All three arrows missed me and killed the phantom behind me! Yes, I killed the phantom I summoned.
- Spoiler:
- There's a big red "X" on your sig. (Sorry, It just really bugs me.)

this happened last night … but first a bit of a set up.
there are certain things that i like to do at the start of every new play through. one of them is making a mad dash to Nito so i can get my grubby hands on the gravelord sword. to do this i hurl myself off the first bridge near the second necromancer in the catacombs so that i land on the ledge just above where you summon Paladin Leeroy, then run for the coffin by the prowling demon and before anyone even knows that i was there i have the gravelord sword. i've done this so many times that i could probably do it naked and blindfolded.
on this occasion i had been farming the ghosts in the Londo Ruins for quite some time and had amassed a rather substantial amount of souls in the process, enough to go from level 4 to level 70 something. i figured why not, i'll get the gravelord sword and level up a bunch and plow through the rest game quickly.
i made it to the drop zone in the Catacombs and took the plunge and a skelie followed me down and survived! it landed a fraction of a second before i did, in the exact spot i was aiming for! Jimmy Circket! i hit the top of his head and hovered there just long enough for one of the exploding skull heads to home in on me. i mashed the roll button more desperately than i ever had before … BOOM! … "You Died"
okay, no problem, it was a once in a life time sort of thing, i can get back there easily enough to retrieve my souls. they should still be at the top of the bridge. super easy … no, because"Welcome to Dark Souls"
it turns out that my souls were all the way down at the bottom where i landed on that frelling skeleton. okay, whatever, i'll just drop down and … Sweet Zombie Jesus! … that frelling skeleton followed me down again and the exact same thing happens to me, for a second time! … and i lose everything! :affraid:

I know sometimes I die for the dumbest reasons, especially when seeking out a bloodstain.
Sometimes if I try to rush through an area I end up getting my self surrounded by at least 5 enemies, but of course this is why I always keep combat magic attuned and save it for when I need it.
Mostly you just need to be prepared and stay focused.
But of course I know I have walked into a bossfight expecting it to be easy since I knew what was coming and gotten destroyed.
For instance the stunlock nerf made me die a few times to queelag, partly because I had forgotten about the patch.

I've had another block tonight with the Bonewheels in the Painted World. I seem to have totally forgotten how to get past them, despite having done it several times already. Truly horrible things. I've also died countless times at the Aqueduct of Death . I swear that damn Ring of Sacrifice is cursed.

I see everyone saying that they died from getting the ring of sacrifice from the aquaduct, i don't think i've ever died from that...
I have however jumped off the viaduct countless times after coming out of it, when i wanna stab the hollow in front of me but target lock switches to the bomb throwing hollow next to the stairs -.-

I did the very same the other day. Locked on to that first Hollow as you come out, did a power attack and thrust my sword forward as he swings round and falls, and off I go after him, already half way through the attack, plunging into oblivion .lalliman wrote:I have however jumped off the viaduct countless times after coming out of it, when i wanna stab the hollow in front of me but target lock switches to the bomb throwing hollow next to the stairs -.-
