Iato vs. Uchi
What makes the Uchigatana different than the Iato? As far as I can tell it's all about personal preference.

Re: Iato vs. Uchi
The uchi also doesn't need 20 dex, so it's better if you want to make a pure int/fth or a elemental build.

its the same length as an iaito...
does 10 more damage 420 vs 410. it comes down to R2 preference.
not sure it is slower, seems the same to me.\
not even sure why you would consider using an uchi or an iaito though... unless it is to fast menu swap to when your life gets to be under 100... other wise go Chaos blade

i dont think any of the R2s are useful, they are easy to parry, because its a reaction parry not a prediction parry. you can wait till the animation starts.
you can argue the iaito R2 can dead angle but i don't think its that great still.

Re: Iato vs. Uchi
Thats what I use it for. Mostly i'm baiting parries with it, generally when buffed. Though the scythe is better for it, I cant rebuff.
The thrust r2 works best against slower weapons, they generally 2h and are vulnerable after a miss.
Still, its mostly preference in any case, the r1s are their big strength and they're the same all around.

true, its all preference. i love the washing blade R1 just cuz the reach is so redic, but the uchi's reach aint that long so i never found it that good.

Re: Iato vs. Uchi
Iaito's R2 is similar to roll R1, but does a lot more damage.
Uchigatana's R2 is similar ro running R1 and does a little more damage.
Iaito is actually a bit longer, but we're talking centimeters here, so it doesn't matter.
EDIT
Washing Pole is exactly like Uchigatana, but it requires 20 Str and it's a bit slower. Yes, it cuts slower than other katanas. However it's extremely long. Spear-like long.
Chaos Blade is longer than Uchi and Iaito, it's also a bit stronger, but only if you have 10 Humanity. Additionally it's a bit more curved so it's good for Dead Angles and it inflicts Bleed faster than other katanas. It has some serious downsides though. It drains 20 HP per hit, even phantom hits. Yes, it damages it's user. That's not all. It's R2 are next to useless and it can't be buffed.
I still love Chaos Blade though.

20hp drain serious down side?? WHAT IS THIS? that is the best part of the blade., and the overall reason i use it over iato and uchi.
brb Red Tear Stone Ring
brb low life but not low enough to activate ring
brb few R1s into a shield and RTSR is activated.
my ring gets activated about 90% of my matches the other 10% is when i get get backstabbed or OHKO deaths.
when i was messing around with Uchi and Iaito, my ring would only activate not even half the time.
majority of my fights its my chaos blade chip damage that activates my RTSR, very very seldom do i actually take damage from my enemy and end up in range.

Re: Iato vs. Uchi
Uchi: a little higher base damage, lower DEX requirement, and a thrust R2.
Iaito: a little lower base damage, higher DEX requirement, and a side-sweep R2.
Bottom line: Both are very similar weapons, but they do have small differences. It just comes down to personal preference.

20 HP drain is a problem, depending on players HP. If you have 1800, it's ok. If you have 1100, it can be a big problem.
Red Tearstone is a good idea, but it failed me horribly, simply because I don't get to that low HP. I either win, or get spell spammed/backstabed, in which cases it wouldn't turn on anyway.
Very rarely, 1/50 matches, I get to low enough HP to use Red Tearstone, even when I hack and slash with Chaos Blade around me, like a madman.
In those cases, I put it on asap, but then I stop using Chaos Blade and either switch to a different melee weapon, or go ranged/pyro.

Its all preference, i roll with 1400 hp only as you can see in my build, and I have no issue with chaos blade and rtsr

I'd take the washing pole over all 3 anyways, especially when buffed

Iaito is sexier but still not as sexy as the chaos blade. Washing pole is for tryhards.

Re: Iato vs. Uchi
The C.Blade's damage and reach more than make up for its 20 hp drain. That little extra range and damage effectively lengthens your lifespan and shortens your opponent's.
The Uchi and Iaito are indeed about preference like the other posts stated.

Re: Iato vs. Uchi
Thats fine.
My objection was to the term, as if its a bad thing to want to win using effective things the devs intention ally put in game. (and the washing pole is definitely effective)

lol im just being stubborn, the washing pole is obviously the best, but has the highest stat investment to get equal damage, but if you buff it it is ridiculous, but that is boring(personal opinion) yet super effective

The ridiculous Washing pole scabbard leaves me unable to use it.
I just care too much about how my toon looks I guess, lol.

Re: Iato vs. Uchi
When I use the Washing Pole it doesn't even make me feel like I'm using a katana. It feels like I'm using an overly versatile spear or greatsword. It's a really cool weapon, but I just can't classify it as a katana, or a normal one for that matter. If I ever used it, it'd be because I was RPing as Sephiroth or someone else with a ridiculously long sword.
