Item burden should come back? Empty Item burden should come back?

Item burden should come back? Th?id=H.4668432733442136&pid=15 <---Get it?
I think Item Burden should return, but not in the way it was in Demon's Souls:

First, the bottomless box should stay so you don't have to depend on an NPC and then enter "hardcore" mode because you accidentally provoked him in the beginning of the game.

It's simple, you have a fixed limited inventory space. This is not based on weight, but rather actual space. You can only carry 4 weapons, 10 pieces of armor, 4 rings, 999 arrows, 20 items (not including souls) and 99999 pieces of ore. (Unlimited really). Not to be taken as values I want, but rather I suggest as an example. If you pick up an item that would exceed this limit, you can decide to either:

    1) Send it to the Bottomless Box
    2) Send an item you currently have to the Bottomless box

Just my take on Item Burden returning. Cause right now, we are a breathing armory. We don't need to think much ahead because we have everything at our disposal all the time with the exception of magic.

I'd prefer a weight-based system to the one you suggested. I did like the weight limit of DeS.

No for any Item Burden System. I hated it in DeS and much rather be a walking armory. I'm not even a fan of the bottomless box, I just carry my crud around because I find it much easier then storing it in the box and later having to go find something.

And how many weapons did you have? I have a few hundred just on one character; that's too much to carry around and constantly cycle through. I usually carry around 8-10 weapons, not including several bows and shields; I'd be taking HUGE hit with a burden system. I still hope they bring it back.

A few hundred? Try save editing less or getting less upgrade materials from hackers. Normal players don't have hundreds of weapons....

Also just use the bottomless box if it's such a hassle.

Also your red text is horrible.

None of it's glitched and none of it was traded for; I'm on a quest to have every weapon and shield on every upgrade path at maximum reinforcement-1. That's a lot, and it takes a long time just sorting through it when I'm working on storage; imagine if that was just my plain inventory @~@(I'm not going to deal with that many slabs)

I'd love item burden to return, would be nice to make us have to think about what to take or not, both with us and collecting from the field

An absolute no from me for the item burden to return. DkS is a different beast to other RPG's that have an abundance of items everywhere, so for systems like that it makes sense.

I think item burden is an interesting concept, but doesn't fit with how dark souls inventory works now. Currently there is no urgency in what you are carrying, and item burden doesn't add an extra challenge to the game, but just a headache. IF you had items on hand that you had to continually use, like food, or lanterns that burned out, item burden would add an extra challenge by giving you a limited stock. But as it is now, item burden just forces you to go to a bonfire to switch out or items, or not allow to you pick up all the things you may want in a level.

I'm all for item burden if it is added in a meaningful way that adds tension to the game, but right now that system doesn't exist in dark souls.

I really think if there were areas where you were constantly being poisoned or were dark, and healing items or lanterns had meaningful weight and slowly diminished with use the idea of item burden would add another sense of urgency of not using these items to loosely and planning what to take with you, but as is, Dark souls is better off without it.

What I would rather see is caps on how many of specific items the player can carry at one time. For instance:

Make divine blessings buyable, but only allow the player to carry one at any time on their person. Limit five humanity on person from the bonfire. Things like this would hamper people from spamming powerful items, while at the same time creating an urgency to find more via looting should you run out between bonfires. This would be interesting for poison sections if you could only hold 10 or so mosses.

eh bad idea, it sucked so much when you lost items, when arrows counted and you where an archer.... just no, that's where my want of realism stops, next you will want a hydration meter and injuries that can faster silly

Steve and Buggy hit it on the nail here. Inventory limitations and item burdens are only good when they meaningfully tie into one of the game mechanics. Right now, item burden and inventory limitations only serve to be an annoying inconvenience, rather than something that calls for interesting strategizing situations.

When I play games like table top DnD or Dragon's Dogma, what I choose to carry, as well as who carries it makes much more of a difference, gameplay wise.

While I don't think that Dragon's Dogma was an amazing game, there were some features that had enormous potential, and one of them was the item/equipment/burden system. I would sit there at the shops, going through all of my items to make sure that I was properly equipped for a long journey. If I knew that the quest could take up to a couple of hours of gameplay, I packed accordingly. My companion was the big strong guy, so he carried most of the heavy stuff. We would even buy jars to put our food inside to keep it preserved. I even made sure that I left most of my treasure and unused items in the storage so that they didn't weigh us down. That was one of the things I loved the most about that game.

    - We are going into a sewer maze with snakes and poisonous lizards. Antidotes? Check!
    - The area we are traveling to doesn't contain a lot of food sources. Jars and food items? Check!
    - The monster that we are hunting down is highly susceptible to fire. Explosive arrows for our archer? Check!

Good planning made the trip much easier, but bad planning could put you in a bad situation.

I like that, I can switch equipment in the middle of a fight, I can go from fat roll to fast roll in less then 15 secs, If I run out of spells I can switch to my Moonlight Greatsword or any other weapon I choose.

I'd don't think an item burden would contribute anything to the game. Also, the worst experience I ever had in a Soul's game was carrying the brushwood armor all the way back to the nexus(whoever decided to disable the warp function when your over-encumbered deserves to die)

Item burden sucks and pretty much every game with that sort of mechanic I enjoy less as a result of it. I haven't played Dragon's Dogma as mentioned above, but in The Elder Scrolls for example you can carry around 100 different pieces of loot, but as soon as you pick up 1 apple that puts you over the cap you move like a snail.

What's the point? It's not like it makes the game any more immersive. It's pretty standard to loot everything in sight in RPGs and item burden or not, the amount of stuff you carry around is completely unrealistic.

Sure if it created more tension or a sense of meaning to what I have in my pack it could be a good mechanic. But 9 times out of 10 in a game with item burden you will have 7 different weapons on you at any given time, but are punished for picking up number 8. Why even bother with such an pointless restriction?

Ok to set this statement up, you should know I love the hardcore mode in Fallout 2 New Vegas.

I organize stuff and plan out my day trips. I pack water and lunches, sort bullets, plan weapon load outs and on and on…I probably spend as much time in my house sorting inventory as I do on missions. It bums me out that Skyrim does not have a mode where I have to pack food and water....

....But I did NOT like to do that kind of stuff in Demon Souls, and I don’t know why. I hated it when I stumbled on to a set or armor or ore and had to drop stuff to get it. It was just a big pain for some reason.

I'm on my first playthough in DeS at moment and the equipment burden is proving to be a gargantuan pain in the ar$e! It isnt an enjoyable mechanic, like Mosquito Power said, in Fallout it works because it lends itself to the style of play, in DeS its just an unnecessary inconvenience.

Did like nobody carry round the ring of herculean strength in DeS? Basically never had to worry about item burden, just slipped the ring on and away we go with another ridiculously heavy set of plate armour.
    I'm indifferent in all honesty.
But I do hope they add backpacks and pouches, seems kinda odd for us to be pulling greatswords out of our backsides.....

I like to carry my ores and do mass upgrades, imagine going through the great halolow if ores had weight? not fun at all.

Or if they had placed Havels set in lost Izalith and you were wearing the ring of fap and orange charred ring. If you picked it up you'd have to switch to Havels ring to walk normally if you didn't have enough End(not to mention anything that send you over the carrying limit gets insta-dropped and has to be picked up again, as far as I remember). Unlimited inventory was the best thing to happen to the series.

No if only they would bring back the sorting system!
