This is my current build

The MLGS is my main back up weapon, after the buff on my Iaito runs out. I also plan on carrying a +5 Chaos Claymore in case I need a fire weapon. I currently have +5 Lightning Flamberge, but I'm not sure if I want to keep it.
My question is, should I keep the flamberge as lightning or should I make it +15 and make a Lightning Bastard Sword instead. How noticeable is the loss in reach of a bastard sword? It's pretty small compared to the claymore or flamberge when standing still, but how does that affect it during attacks?
Also, how noticeable is the difference between slash and regular damage on heavily armored opponents? I plan to mostly fight gankers in the forest, so heavy armor is the assumed target.
I only have 2 titanite slabs left, so I'd like to know the pros and cons of a bastard sword before I upgrade it anymore.
