Thief class is so bad......

I have lost count of the amount of builds I have made. Every type of build one can imagine.

Deprived has never been the "best starting class" for any of them, but that is not surprising. Thief class has also never been "best", and I have tried to build one MANY times. It just isn't any good....so many wasted stats.

Every other class has come in handy for one build or another.

Weird.

Can anyone show me a build utilizing the Thief class? SL is not an issue, very low, low, mid, high.....anything.

thief class used to be to get the stray demons weapon and have the master key on ng.

they made it so you can buy the master key tho, plus the advent of bbg and all that stuff. yeah its kinda worthless.

btw im lost wheres the pvp board.

I never understood why we used to not be able to buy it. It used to be every starting gift could be acquired after starting the game except master key.

I'm glad they fixed that, but I still don't get why it was that way in the first place :?:

I'm impressed. I did some stuff on that site, but nothing said the theif would be best. It kept listing it near the bottom. I thought I also tried a dex/ int, but I guess I did it wrong.

Also, here's another one. It's the lowest soul level that can get almost maxed damage from a Greatsword of Artorias. http://mmdks.com/15qe (I'll admit it gots an LOL quality.)

Probably not a very good build, but I decided to turn Thief into a SL 100 Artorias.

Was aiming for the feel of the actual Boss fight.

^ The problem is the Theif isn't the best class for that build.

Look at the best class finder:

We are trying to make builds that list Theif as the best class.

Use Grant + Dark Sorceries, with Obsidian Greatsword as a backup if Grant isn't working out in whatever situation you're in.

Power Within can be replaced with another Dark Sorcery, depending on your preference.

Thief is a very good class for high SL Faith/Int/Dex build that has minimum Str.

Could it be that the game is just smarter than you and knows how a thief character would be naturally inclined to fight? Every single stat is cleverly placed. You'd know this if you took the time to look at it from a thief-type character's point of view.

9 health/ 9 endurance - Low because thieves focus on surprise and try to avoid straight fights.

9 Strength - Obviously thieves focus on dex weapons(especially daggers) because they're quicker, lighter, and have higher criticals

11 attunement/12 intelligence/11 faith - considerably high because a smart thief would need support spells like Chameleon, Hidden Body, Hush and maybe force to fight. They tend to use a lot of different tricks to get the job done.

15 dex - They focus on dex weapons. I shouldn't need to explain this one.

Come on people. How come no one knows this?

The actual reason is probably due to game balance--PvE balance, specifically. If you look at the starting classes, their starting stats (amount of levels, more importantly than their distribution) and starting level seem to factor other starting attributes, like gear, covenant, and spells. The Sorcerer, for example, has the lowest amount of starting total stat points, but starts with an attunment of soul arrows.

The thief starts with a free master key. Doesn't seem huge now, but it used to be when you couldn't purchase it, and it allowed you to get an extra starting gift.

(Don't ask me in what universe the Pyro starting class is considered to be balanced though! silly

silly

)

Looking at it from a PvP build perspective it seems underpowered, but that's not the way From looked at it. And after a few patches they probably diluted the advantages the Thief class had to begin with, but I guess re-balancing the starting classes was no longer an option at that point.

Considering how huge PvP has become for Dark Souls, I wouldn't be surprised if From balanced starting classes with that a little more in mind for Dark Souls 2, though.

Plus thief armour is very respectable. I'd put it near the top of the list for starting armours.

Also the Bandit's Knife was a great starting weapon. The drop rate from the hollow thieves used to be a lot lower, which made the Bandit's Knife a bit of a pain to get before. And before the Silver Tracer, the BK was the go-to crit weapon (for me, anyway--others prefer the rapier). So before the patches and the DLC I'd sometimes start as thief just so I wouldn't have to go through the hassle of farming a BK.

All things considered, I don't know if From thought the BK was a good starting weapon! So it might not have affected the way they balanced the class. But it was for me, anyways.
