It makes me wonder if these people do it just to be jerks or if they actually think its a good idea to put those there.

Is anyone else annoyed by this? I mean, it should be simple to just go right up to an object and interact with it by pressing a button. Horribly simple, but no, even for something like that I have to sit there and faniggle my guy around until the message disappears. Or if I'm getting chased by a mob and I want to climb down/ up a ladder, oh lolnope can't do it because that precious second that could have safely gotten me on it was wasted because some jerk put a message right there. Or when they put it by a bonfire " Bonfire ahead ". OH REALLY? Could you possibly mean that bonfire thats two inches away? Are you sure its that bonfire?
It makes me wonder if these people do it just to be jerks or if they actually think its a good idea to put those there.

YES YES YES. People who put these damn signs by chests, or at the top of ladders (especially above Kalameet or at the Bell Tower, and even going from Upper to Lower Undead Burg). I was literally going to make a thread on this but I forgot. Most annoying things ever. And the bonfires, nothing's more annoying then getting invaded because I couldn't rest at a bonfire fast enough. Also, right in front of NPC's that have a choice right away, and you choose the wrong one, or one's that will save you, (if you're getting chased by the Forest Hunters, Alvina is your only hope, but of course there's always that one message that you read instead of talking to her, then you get butt raped). Messages are the most annoying thing in DaS.

Sometimes they do it as a simple joke to lighten the mood for their own game. I tend to ignore most of them because they are never very helpful, just try not to get worked up over the really stupid ones. It makes the game a lot more stressful.

I honestly didn't know placement location was an issue until I saw it get Rynn killed in a stream once.
And it was pretty funny, but I can totally see how it'd be frustrating. Having your "Flow" interrupted by having to cycle through the options, or put your character in a certain orientation while having an army of undead beasties on your heels... yeah...

"Be wary of trap", right in front of a chest. Close out of the message, get stabbed in the back by [insert staple enemy of the area here], die.

The developers are trolls too though. The worst message placement in the game is on the way to TWoP, a developer laid soapstone that says "up" right before the ladder.

That's a developer message?????????????????????????????? I always thought it was some douche bag who was trolling. Every new file whenever I'm running through the Catacombs that damn Necro always kills me going up that ladder because of that effing message............Rynn wrote:The developers are trolls too though. Let's face it, that's probably one of the least troll-y things they've done.

In all fairness depending on your camera angle, it's possible to miss that ladder.
The sign that gets me is one's that are placed right where you spawn when you invade, you can't bloody bow or wave, you've to step back or forward, ruins the moment.
"Hel.... ffs", takes step forward, screw it moments gone.

The funny thing about the messages in Dark Souls is that it seems like helpful ones are never upvoted but silly ones are. In Demon's Souls it's the opposite.

That's working under the supposition that the message voting system actually works. :suspect:

I always get amazed by the really strangely placed ones on top of near-impossible ledges or sometimes in midair. Well, I say amazed, I never read them.

No need to waste 100 souls on the soapstone.

Those have to be the worst in my opinion, next to the messages with WHATEVER text in front of the Firekeeper soul in the Parish. By the way, you can just send the elevator back up while you get out so you don't have to pull it back up.Walter_White wrote:hell the elevator down to NLR - there is always a sign near the lever telling you, that you are standing before a lever......i do looting runs to NLR and always have to call the lift, caus i bone out....and every time i have to toggle the message wtf...

I think its funny. I always see one at the lever in Anor Londo that opens the front door to the boss fog. I think to myself, "You troll, and if you're the the guy invading my host right now, then you're a brilliant troll."

I don't know, I still like the "Amazing chest ahead" messages before fighting Quelaag. They get me everytime.

That's not obstructing like something in front of something you need to interact with.Ezlare wrote:I don't know, I still like the "Amazing chest ahead" messages before fighting Quelaag. They get me everytime.

^ In that case, I hate it when someone plonks a message down in front of a bonfire saying "bonfire ahead", or "Need humanity" where it's a bit TOO close where you have to toggle first, but you forget to, so you read the message instead.

They usually tend to do it just to be jerks. But your Dark Souls experience wouldn't be complete by meaningless messages, would it?
Also, that guy who wrote 'Try jumping.' near that edge, is lying.
