    Not bad, not bad. Funny!

    I'm getting a little tired of all the press Dark Souls gets being so focused only on dying though. The game's really not hard at first if you play intelligently, and you won't die that often. And after a few playthroughs, you can flat out say the game is actually easy. It's such an amazing game, yet all the press around it is only about dying. Very, very few mentions about how every one of those deaths (well, almost) was fair, avoidable, and the fault of the player.

    The reason this isn't very well advertised, imo, is because realizing this is what makes you like the game or not. It's at the heart of why these games are great, and only by playing can you realize it fully and get the actual impact it has on the experience. Just telling someone that "it's hard but fair" is difficult to convey to an outsider what you mean, and is not as effective a selling point in terms of advertising as "This game is hard! If you're looking for a challenge in a game play this game!"

    Sure, but a "hard game" isn't necessarily good. It could just be very frustrating.

    A "hard but fair game", on the other hand, is great. Dark Souls has extremely good gameplay, which is why it can be hard and fair. Sure, it's hard to explain that on the back of the box! But any reviewer or journalist who fails to get that point across, in my opinion, failed to review the game properly.

    The reason I ever picked up Demon's Souls Day 1, to begin with, was precisely that IGN properly explained that the game was hard but fair; that every death was avoidable and your fault. That's why I jumped on board! If they'd only said "The game is hard" I might never have picked it up.

    That's kinda funny because the reason I picked up DeS was because I heard it was a hard, but great RPG and that was it. I love RPG's, so it was a no brainer...

    Unfortunately DeS was sold out everywhere I looked for over 2 months after I wanted it.

    I feel somewhat like the motto of Dark Souls shouldn't be, "You Died." Rather it should be, "You done *** up!"

    @Ace

    Yeah, I made sure to preorder it! Was very glad I did. Demon's Souls was a lot more underground than Dark Souls Day 1, so shortages were expected.

    @Tolvo

    lol, yes.

    Lets be fair Blaine, a game with the tag line "Prepare to Die" is obviously gonna focus on you dying all the time, and on your first playthrough you probably amass deaths into triple figures, I know I did.

    @Serious:

    Nuh uh! tongue I died a few dozen times--around 50 deaths, I'd say. Which isn't that many if you really think about it, compared to other games.

    But I have to say, I knew what to expect, and I was playing more cautiously and intelligently than someone who's playing a Souls game for the first time.
