because the poise break is awful both pickaxe and warpick only break 30 poise instead of 52 like other hammers

I love the Pickaxe too. I did almost 2000 damage on a backstab with it, when I was fighting Soris, and another invader came in.

Depends on stats pickaxe is a Str scaling wep, warpick is Str/dex scaling wep and lighter, if you have 27str and 40dex warpick is better. They are 2 of my favourite weps, but hard to play, they are both dealnthrust damage so the Leo ring is a good choice of ring.

I think I like the pickaxe because when I riposte, I cringe at the thought of just how much that would hurt. ^_^

don't forget the leo ring compatibility, that results in 1000's in regular combat if your'e using any sort of buff,
