I want to be a noob again Empty I want to be a noob again

Post by Dibsville Wed May 29, 2013 5:54 pm

I realise this is brought up quite a lot in threads, and there are many who both support and do not support it, but I hope that Dark Souls 2 is not repetitive.

Now, don't misunderstand me and think that by that I mean the game should constantly change. By this, I mean maybe item placement is a little off. Maybe merchants will sell slightly different things every once and awhile. I don't mean that the game should constantly twist and turn (which would make since, we are messing with time and worlds all the time), I'm simply saying I'd like to be surprised when something occurs instead of acknowledging that said thing was going to happen.

I simply want to be surprised again. Once you know a lot about Dark Souls, it's very easy to get what you want, know what you need, and when to use certain things.

Just to give an example of how it is now.
Say you have 25k souls, you need to buy a key that cost 8k souls, and leveling costs 20k souls. There is an enemy on the way to where you buy the key at that drops 5k souls. Since you KNOW the enemy is there, and since you KNOW the key costs 8k souls, then you KNOW you can level up.

Now look at it differently. Say the enemy is stronger or weaker depending on the time of day, or maybe the key can not be obtained because of else. You do not KNOW that you can kill the stronger enemy, you only think you can. There will be consequences should you fail, instead of you knowing that you're not going to fail whatsoever.

I simply want things to change, even if only slightly. I want the AI to respond in a different way, merchants not to act the same all the time. I'd even be fine with something as simple as an enemy having an attack that buffs its defenses in one category so you have to prepare with different types of weapons. Anything, but I do not want a memory game.

I want to feel like I know nothing about what is going to happen around each turn. I simply want the thrill of PvE back on every single run without having to limit yourself, or having to beat the game so many times to make it overly hard.

I like this idea...throwing in some twists and turns in PvE with every playthrough would add variety and keep things interesting. +1

I'm all for changing up enemies and other stuff but NOT where the weapons and armour is.It would suck to have to farm for weapons as well as upgrade materials.

Probably should have added that option, but too late now.
I think it's more of how many times you've played the game. Believe it or not, I have 7000+ hours of Dark Souls under my belt, so when I say I want change, I mean I don't want the same thing to happen to Dark Souls 2. I don't simply want a memory game, but I don't want it to be like a completely new game every run. Just something different every once and awhile would be amazing.

Now that^ is out of the way.

I like the idea of mixing the game up each playthru.

    I like it but would add this;
If you have already purchased a set of armour from a merchant, in ng+ it's replaced by a different set of armour at the same price. Or same could be said for armour you find in an area. The only thing I hate about DKS is you can only sell stuff to kaathe or frampt, (don't know which is FL). Since you get multiple armour sets it would be nice if that was to happen.

One of the reasons my wife and I never tire of playing "Left For Dead" is because the mutants are in different locations each time you play. You can never not be on guard. The next game should have multiple locations for some if not all of the mobs so you never know what is around the next corner and can never let down your guard.

Even something as simple as changing enemy positions would be great. I can pretty much walk through new londo blindfolded now on a farming run.
Reintroducing something like The black tendency from demons would even improve it. Bloody hell i can remember nearly crapping a brick when 2 black phantom fat ministers appeared before and behind me in 1-3.

I think there's been many discussions about this. Sadly you left out the most superior option in the situation dibs- both.

You see, dark souls is a methodical game. It's designed around learning from death. It is repetitive, trial and error and overcoming by learning, improving yoru skills, finding that extra thing to upgrade or spell to use. I believe this is how it should stay....

    ON NG ONLY

In previous discussions it's come out the fact that change is almost NECESSARY for NG+ and beyond. It's just fighting the same stuff, so people like myself ad others get bored after NG+/++ whatever because it's repetitive with the same character.

We propose that enemies change in higher NGs. AI is altered. Attack patterns change. Enemy placement changes. Unique features being used to increase difficulty is also a good idea. Let me explain some of these:

Quelaag- on NG+ lava does not disappear. O&S, both start super, super2 for deafeating one. Priscilla- instant bleed and always invisible etc.

That way the bosses are fresh too.

I agree with Serious_Much. In NG, Dark Souls is all about learning from your mistakes, and figuring out what has to be done differently to let you proceed. I think that in later playthroughs the emenies should become a lot more unpredictable, changing position, attack patterns, even number of enemies perhaps. Also, I think that moving weapon placements would help to ensure that players don't just charge through the game, ensuring that they explore all areas thoroughly each playthrough to find the equipment they want.

I'll ring in as the single person (as of now anyway) who voted pro-repetition. I agree with what Serious_Much said about the game being methodical and about learning from your mistakes. I really admire that about this game. Since I play a lot of Skyrim on PC where most gameplay mods are based on making the world more dynamic, I've always considered the world of Dark Souls to be a breath of fresh air, where everything is quite static, and memory and planning are key.
