I would like to confirm that you can loose the crest key from the Mimic in Oolacile Township. I died shortly after killing the mimic and I could see the key there ready to be picked up. However it wasn't there anymore after I came back from the bonfire.

I can confirm that there are certain items that will be lost if you do not pick them up before dying. The Crest Key is one of them.

Re: Oolacile Township Crest Key
I thought it was like that with all Mimic drops. I saw a Dark Souls stream wherein the streamer killed the Mimic in Sen's Fortress (dropping the Lightning Spear) but then died soon after to the boulders IIRC. He respawned at the bonfire but then when he returned to the Mimic's location there was no item there to collect.
I fail to see how it would be any different for any other Mimic drops.

Re: Oolacile Township Crest Key
It ultimately unlocks the path to fight the black dragon Kalameet.
Excerpt from Wiki:
After that you are able to kill him and get some nice rewards.
Though I'll have to wait until the next playthrough because of my messup.
Excerpt from Wiki:
- Spoiler:
- "You will need to get attacked by Kalameet before Hawkeye Gough will offer to shoot down Kalameet. After you find Hawkeye Gough by unlocking his room using the Crest Key, you have to talk to him all the times you can until you exhaust his dialogues, then close the conversation. If you have not yet found and been set on fire by Kalameet near the waterfall at the end of the valley, you will not be able to ask for Gough's help (you do not need to get killed, but you do need to enounter him near the waterfall). Once you have found Kalameet the second time, go back to Gough and talk to him again; he will now ask you if you need help with the dragon. Say 'Yes.' He will ask if you intend to prevail until the end, say 'Yes.' Then a short cinematic will play showing Hawkeye Gough using his bow to take down Kalameet from the skies."

No...
Kalameet on NG+ or higher is a joke.
You missed out, unfortunately. He's the hardest boss in the game.
And that's without the tail cut.
That tail cut... such horrors should not be spoken of.

Re: Oolacile Township Crest Key
Kalameet will meet his doom by my sword, every other boss is already dead He is very hard no doubt, but I've watched several guys doing it with cutting off his tail. Studying these fights and the wiki pages tell you a lot of tactics on how to beat him. If that fails you can try co-op. There is a co-op strategy involving the Dragon greatbow.
And then if you start a new character you can still try the first time round after you get the Crest key.

Re: Oolacile Township Crest Key
Kalameet is not the type of enemy you can simply "Watch a video on and be a pro at." He is completely RNG based and will punish you severely for overconfidence.
Also, that tail cut alone makes him the hardest boss. He's also the hardest without the tail cut. So combine them together to get... the hardest boss in the game...

Oh no Kalameet is one you have to face and study well to win. You need to face him to know what he is like and his tail has to be the hardest thing to do in this game.

I, personally, think Kalameet is easy.

But all the other bosses are easier.Teh Kitten´s Cat wrote:I, personally, think Kalameet is easy.
So he's the hardest boss.
Whether he's hard in terms of difficulty is up to debate.

Not really, I just used an older backup save(PC) got the key and beat him to death with my Zweihänder , just to proove to myself that I can do it. 6 tries was all it took. Now onto Manus.

Re: Oolacile Township Crest Key
I, uh.... totally got him on the first try, with the tail cut..... BUT, that was co-op. He is certainly very challenging; it so happens that the things I do naturally seem to work well against him. Just, like, roll-patterns and when I sit and block, when I heal, etc. I *personally* struggled a lot more with Artorias than against Kalameet.
By the way, which mimic drops the crest key? I have this sinking feeling that I might've thrown it away -- but I don't think I *died* since killing it, I just moved on and never picked up the item, and then warped away without really thinking about it.
edit: ugh. Yeah, that's the one I shot..... crap.... well, only one way to find out I guess....

Re: Oolacile Township Crest Key
Well, I went back today, hoping to find the crest key... AND I TOTALLY DID WOOO.
So, logging off, warping, resting, shutting down, loading other characters, restarting..... none of that makes the item drop go away, because I totally did all of that. For it to disappear, you have to actually die.
