I decided to go for the Black Bow of Pharis because I stupidly turned my first one into a crystal weapon quite forgetting you can't repair the darn thing. I killed off all the npc's including that pesky knight and cleared the area of ents and went for him. First he fell off the ledge, so I got my bow out and was happily arrowing him to death when he stepped back and fell off the cliff to his doom. Result, no bow, not even his hat. Ah well you live and learn.

Re: Reasons to be cheerful (not)
I hear quiting then reloading the moment they go off can cause them the items to appear where they spawn, personally I don't see the reason From didn't give her auto-drop, she's more likely to go off the ledge than the non kiln knights...

Pharis was a guy, but the npc with the hat and bow is a she. Decendent/apprentice maybe?

There is a good chance it is like what I call the lautrec situation. If you kick (or in my case attack) Lautrec will fall off the ledge so you lose the stuff but you can quit the game and reload and his stuff will be where he is sitting

Re: Reasons to be cheerful (not)
My Pharis-girl never fell off, just kept rolling away from me to shoot me, very annoying
And yeah, she's a female alright.
And I still have to understand why that hat is popular with children, it's ugly

As was said by others, pretty sure the stuff will be at the cliff, Pharis jumped off the cliff pre-patch and about a month later post-patch it was there.

Quitting and reloading worked for me as well. I bet if you go back to the forest it will be there.

Re: Reasons to be cheerful (not)
Yep,your right, it was there, although I didn't go straight back for it and I died a couple of times farming for souls in the forest by being knocked off the ledge. Strange but I'm not complaining.
