wild Gaping Dragon fight

So I was fighting Gaping Dragon with a low level character(~40) and while fighting I realized if you don't fight the Channeler up on the balcony with the rats in the Depths, he'll fight you as well from his balcony. Most of the time he was just shooting soul arrows, so it was annoying but pretty wild to say the least.

However, at some point (it was a long fight) he used his trident buff and it powered up the Gaping Dragon! He had the same bluish aura around him except it was enormous, and it lasted a while. Thankfully I didn't get hit, he'd probably OHKO me, but it was a pretty fun fight.

I had no idea these buffs can apply to bosses, it's pretty crazy. I'll definitely keep the Channeler alive in future playthroughs.

Yeah Iv had this happen to me before. The most annoying thing is the soul arrows getting fired off at you (I try to fight Gaping other end of the area anyways but still) since they're a pest to dodge and the fact Gaping never actually hits me.

It doesnt really make much difference though given that the Gaping Dragon is pretty much the Boris Johnson of DkS bosses. I've nicknamed it 'Bumbles'

That's funny, I normally kill everything before I kill a boss, but yesterday I was going through the depth and decide to just run to the boss right away. Once I saw the souls arrows hitting the ground around me I didn't even think of the channeler. Instead, I was like "did I get invaded without noticing or something. Is that ******* going to shoot from the ledge all day?". Like you, I fought the dragon close to the edge of the arena so it wasn't much trouble. It is only after that I realised the channeler was still alive and was shooting at me.

Unfortunatly, I did not see the Buff being applied to the Gaping Dragon, it could of been fun, and also, a better indication that I wasn't being invaded...Genius...

Here's a "fun" challenge to try: summon Solaire in NG+, do not summon Lautrec, leave the Channeler alive, and best the Gaping Dragon without letting Solaire die (Princess Guard miracles are not allowed )

Sounds like a good challenge seeing as how the gaping dragon seems to be up there with pinwheel as one of the easiest bosses... Makes me ashamed how the first time I fought it I died about six times

You can also leave a summon up there to shoot arrows down on the gaping dragon during the fight. You can also throw firebombs down on gaping dragon from the area near the stairs leading to the fog gate.

lol may sound easy but reaper know solaire is a complete tard when it comes to that fight. he just runs in and gets owned even if the boss isnt buffed.

That's why I called it a challenge lol, because it's not supposed to be easy;)
We all know Solaire is beyond useless past the first playthrough and the Gaping Dragon is one of the most brainless bosses to go against, so put both things together and maybe you'll actually have a challenge

and yeah the gaping dragon is fun to fight with the channeler alive, this also means a summoned helper can snipe-aggro him safetly from the balcony above the fog door.
