Re: need parry practice.
practice with the target shield. blind parrys are instinct and luck but set up parrys are fairly simple and easier against small weapons. let the weapon hit you, and parry just after it hits. If they we're starting another swing, they're parried. the timing is a bit tricky and its different for each weapon.

Re: need parry practice.
During pvp each parrying weapon/shield has its own delay. I know my own for my connection and they're likely similar.
Medium speed kite shields ~1 sec delay
Fast kite shields, curved swords and small shields~.75 second delay
Daggers and Rapiers~.5 second delay
I honestly don't have the timing for the target shield and parrying dagger yet. They're a bit odd, but you get a larger window to riposte which is helpful especially since the parry animation may be ending AS the ripost window ends.
Like forum pirate said you can parry by blocking the first hit then parrying. This works on many weapons if your opponent spams r1. If they tend to run in, attack run back you can try and time a parry to hit as soon as they are in front of you likely parrying their attack.
The truth is parrying is hard in pvp and the only real way to learn is to just go for it and take the risk. Its worth it in the end. Just pick one weapon to parry with and stick to it. This way you'll learn the timing and be able to parry when you want to, not just when you're lucky.

Re: need parry practice.
ok...well 1st decide what you like using to parry a parryin dagger, target shield or normal
i myself hate the target shield and i cant perry some weapons with the dagger so on my dragonoid i use bare claws
then practice on forest hunter npcs or silver/black knights, black knights have a wider weapon range so they are better then when you can parry them all with ease practice online
the online parrys have to be done a fev seconds faster depending on the connection i would advice to watch the shoulder and memorise the timing if you need practice just pm me its 'opcy' if you allready forgot
