Sunlight & Crystal Magic Weapon
I have to ask this..... Why does everybody like using Sunlight Blade and Crystal Magic Weapon Spells? I haven't used a single one of these through the whole time I have owned this game and I have no trouble killing enemies, bosses, and PvP. Infact, most of the people that face me with these things, unless they lag-backstab me, I can kill them easily. Is it because They don't like upgrading weapons legitly? Or is it because they want to use weapons that have unfair advantages. I tested the crystal weapon spell on a dagger+5 and it put its hit damge up to around 700. Thats insane. Have normal weapons gone out of style? Or is it because the Dark Souls community has gotten really lazy? No offense to anybody that uses normal weapons.

Re: Sunlight & Crystal Magic Weapon
Because they add magic damage to weapons that do phyiscal damage increasing your damage output and potentially making a fight quicker. It depends on how people fight each other, but the person who buffed can ruin the others day faster in a pure slug fest. Mostly it comes to preference if they want to use it or not, I tend to apply SLB for things like bosses when I want the fight over quickly.

Everything is an arms race. I do crazy amounts of damage on anything with my +15 Great Scythe. Lemon buffing and power within are nice touches in the forest though........

they add that extra kick to your weapon, i use slb but i love the way cmw looks. it doesnt really matter if people run away from me when i buff cause i have 50 str anyway and dont really need it.

Re: Sunlight & Crystal Magic Weapon
It adds 420 or more magic/lightning damage to a blade.
This is the equivelant of a Lightning Zweihander, it's so blatantly overpowered compared to enchanted/occult weapon types, that it is almost silly -not- to do it.

Re: Sunlight & Crystal Magic Weapon
in reply to... rynn i did not know about the lightning zweihander being that powerful..(this is off topic as to what i was going to reply: isn't the tin crystal/darkmoon blade lvl 3 buffed zweihander +15 the most powerful weapon overall?) i thought elemental lost it's edge after certain levels compared to the bonus you get from a buffed +15 weapon...nway you say that the lightning zweihander is overpowerd compared to the same zweihander which is occult or enchanted? so couldn't this be abit of a nod to the rumour that occult weapons do more damage to living people i.e. the host in pvp & devine to dead i.e. invading phantoms.. wow hope u people understand all that :-/

whether or not to use a buff is the choice of any ppl. i don't see how that choice makes it a non- legit or unfair advantage. i just used cmw yesterday for the first time yesterday and still got my *** handed to me by more skilled players. btw, most ppls that use buffs have upgraded their weapon of choice to +15, with everything that is envolved in doing so, i fail to see how that would be considered "lazy".

Re: Sunlight & Crystal Magic Weapon
^This.
Also, what people who don't use buffs fail to realize, is that it's not all advantages.
1. You need to invest points in Fth or Int, which can range anywhere from 15 Int at the absolute minimum (GMW) to 50 Int or Fth.
2. You need to invest points in Att. You could have only the 1 slot for your buff, but odds are you'll want to make better use of all those points invested in Int or Fth, so you'll have multiple slots. Again, more points spent for your buff.
3. You need to factor in the weight of the catalyst or talisman in your build, and also the slot it takes up. 0.3 for a talisman is almost negligible, but 2.5 for TCC becomes considerable. Also, taking up one of your left hand slots leaves you with less options. If you wanted to use pyro, then you have to choose between not being able to parry at all or having to swap your primary weapon out for your pyro hand, which is a dead-giveaway of your intentions and generally a poor strategy. So taking up a left hand slot is a huge impact on your build's options.
4. Levels allocated into Fth or Int, and Att means less levels elsewhere. Less Vit and End, and scaling stats. Less points in scaling stats also means less pure physical damage, in favor of split damage, so your buff is in fact not as strong as it would seem. Also, weight for your talisman or catalyst means less weight for armor, and you already cut back on your End because you needed points for everything involved in the buffing spell.
5. The buff lasts a finite amount of time. And during that time, your opponents will turtle and walk backwards like cowards to run down your buff duration, and if your weapon has no range there's practically nothing you can do against this.
So let's take all this into account: your buff lasts a finite amount of time, during which you're slightly stronger than your opponent, and they'll turtle for all of it. Once the buff wears off, you're left with a build with less Vit, End, worse armor, and a weaker weapon, than your opponent.
Unfair advantage, you say? I don't think so. Used in the best of circumstances, those buffs can make you deadlier than a non-buffing opponent. But if they turtle, they'll turn the tables on you. And if you're overly aggressive, which you practically need to be if you want to kill your opponent before your buff wears off, you better hope they don't parry you.

Upgrading legitly? lol you know it takes longer to upgrade through the normal path, also like blaine said in order to use buffs you have to make alot of sacrifices but it pays off. What do you expect us to make? lightning claymore with 99vit lolDark Spirit EliteBiker20 wrote:I have to ask this..... Why does everybody like using Sunlight Blade and Crystal Magic Weapon Spells? Re: Sunlight & Crystal Magic Weapon
In that case, a spell is a spell, some people like it and others don't. I prefer to avoid those sorts of buffing spells because of the mentioned slot they take and being on a timer if you rely heavily on it. If you buff it after we bow then more power to ya, I'll let you try to hit me as I nick you on passes.
Some people are amazing with buffs, skare's scythe scares the crap outta me when it isn't and I'm glad he hasn't tried that cannon on me.

no one is trying to be harsh, we are all pretty reasonable. but when you use words like "unfair advantage", "lazy" and imply that people are not doing something legitimately you are going to illicit a reaction. i'm sure you didn't mean it to come off the way it did and i just wanted to explain the reactions. btw, where in pa are you from?

Eki....all that fire and lava that seems to follow you gives me enough anxiety. Add in the stress of a cannon build and I'd have a heart attack before I could land a hit.

Re: Sunlight & Crystal Magic Weapon
Honestly I never buff with Magic. I just don't bother with the investments. I started stocking up on Pine resins, but haven't used them consistently since they are timely, and my fight style isn't "Rush and enter slugfest" Its more of "Kite until they screw up then finish them".

Re: Sunlight & Crystal Magic Weapon
I actually use a similar style Yarxov. People aren't always as a big fan of demigods and supporting deities as I am but never forget poor little Phobos.
Even though I know I don't plan on rushing in like a maniac my opponent likely doesn't have a clue. Lemon buffing my Scythe does add a crapload of sweet sweet damage for sure but above all else it makes them assume something about me or panic. Either way means they make mistakes faster. I recently started cannon testing with Power within and the red tearstone. I am not a fan of the tearstone but I have noticed that few things make an opponent wonder what your plan is than seeing a deliberately moving, patient enemy with a red aura and lemon weapon.

ಠ_ಠ does that make me a lava slug of some sort? I kid I kid, I've actually been working on conserving my fires, trying to find the best time to use them.
Does poison resin count, cuz I use those every now and then to mess with people.

Re: Sunlight & Crystal Magic Weapon
Well if you're fighting anyone with a vitality over 12 all you're really doing is adding purple to your weapon so nah....no need to count that one.
Seriously though, that's another great jedi mind trick. I still get a kick out of the panic that is caused by this:
4
8
12
16
20

I should carry around a large club, so every time I kill someone with fire, I strip, light the club with resin, swing it around like a madman.
