By the way I wasn't saying your belief is wrong Barth, just the terminology and what it implies.

    EDIT: Meant Elite Knight.

If you really think about, the only thing worth worshipping is the Sun.

It's the source of all life. For us to be, it must be. When it is gone, we will be gone. It neither loves nor hates, it simply is and should you follow it's example of existing without any notions of good or bad, but simply exist in the moment and offer warmth to all other living creatures, then you will be a happy person.

    Praise the Sun!

So just say something like theistic origin, etc.

Hmmm, that's a bit disconcerting. Perhaps I should delve into it a bit more, see what I've missed. Thanks for the heads-up Tolvo.

    And epic necrobump, TolvoMan! silly

Arguably though atheists are more morally good than Christians or anyone with faith, as there's no reward, no underlying reason to do good. It's intrinsically rather than extrinsically motivated.. It's an interesting point to consider really.

I'm not quite sure what to define myself as, although it leans more towards the atheist side. I don't believe in god or anything almighty, however, i do kind of believe in rebirth though. Kind of doubt that's enough to consider myself religious anyway. Either way, i don't consider myself religious.

Well religions do not require gods, just spirituality. One can be an atheist and religious, though in your case I'd just say you are spiritual.

Religion requires communities, 500+ members, rituals, shared beliefs.

Also I totally worded my previous post wrong, I meant that he was just spiritual. Spirituality does not require a belief in a got. Just in the concept of spirits or things beyond our perceptions/the physical world. If you believe in ghosts you are spiritual, ghosts are spirits.

If you believe you can summon ghosts on fridays with like minded people by using candles and salts, you're in a ghost religion/cult.

I'm Christain Methodist. Born and raised that way. But it wasn't always like that. I did at one point denied that God exists. But as time went on I found that I was the problem as to why I was so unhappy, not other people. And other things came along that showed me that God does exists as well.

I'm most likely be back to post more indepth on my situation of it later. I'm tired as of now.

If I haven't said it already, no. Now string theory (if true) virtually garuntees the exsistance of at least 1 god, more likely many, but with no way for me to know if this universe has a god, or wether or not it is one we know, or even if he/she/it is benevolent, attempting to worship one seems rather pointless.

I wish I knew more about string theory so I could discuss the ideas. It sounds pretty interesting.

That is good for you Vinyl, I may not be religious but I understand how important it can be to a person to find their faith.

I get the principle. the actual math is way above my head, but the theory itself is summarized at the link.

You should be able to make sense of it, it seems to be intended for people less inteligent than I believe you to be.

I never knew there was a thread for religion. Awesome. big grin

    I'm a Laveyan Satanist.

@Tolvo the theory about how we all don't really have free will but what we do is all connected through strings? I've heard of it, it's quite an interesting theory.

It's an odd one, to be honest I've only seen it twice on the internet. Creepy Pasta and when I was lurking on an internet board, not really the type of place to find intellectual discussion.

I'm watching your "Tenth Dimension" video now, it is a fun watch. The concepts are a little hard grasp but I will probably get it in an hour.

It's starting to click for me.

From my mind that is still working on the concept I believe the tenth dimension is essentially every possible way our life could have turned out to be in one dot.

I follow most of the code in Bushido, the virtues and ideal, not anti-women, practice martial arts, etc. I'm closer linked to that and Zen than anything else silly

I've tried to follow multiple religions but things always ended up the same with each one. I would start to ask questions and eventually, without fail, I would receive the same answer. FAITH. You have to have FAITH. FAITH FAITH FAITH. My problem is that I'm not the type of person who you can just tell this incredible story to, and have believe that its the truth with no solid evidence. I actually went as far as to read the entire Bible and let me tell you...if half of the "Christians" out there finished this thing, front to back, they would probably renounce their faith.

They don't have to read it if they do not wish to, it is actually more common now for Christians to not follow the bible.

You don't need a religion to believe in a god, you can be an irreligious theist if you wish to be.
