Great info guys! Me I am pure melee and my pawn pure mage. I plan to add to more mages so it should be interesting 3 mages and a warrior.

Befowler, to be fair since it's a game that has no competitive online aspect, I think splashing out on random skills is meant to be, optimising I wouldn't imagine being a massive part in this game like the setups we roll with for Dark souls PvP..

well the more advance strider is called a ranger and the warrior ranger hybrid is called a assassin

now as for my party contains 2 tanks 1 mage healer and 1 rouge it been working great my guy is a mystic knight and now I can enhance everyone with holy light and my mage can give everyone fire (holy fire of doom) my mage is mostly healing based as Ive said in my review but one of my favorite spells she can you is similar to fire storm creates a giant wall of flame taking down multiple foes. Also had a fight with 2 cyclopes at once with just me and my main pawn(the others got killed fighting ogres) thank god the cyclopes as slow. after I fought another wearing full body armour which made it interesting it took about 5 minuets to smash the armour. all this was done during a 3 hour siege on a goblin fort. I would also like to tell everyone that you can summon pawns from the rift and their are also pawns traveling on the side of the road. hope this help with your decision have fun big grin

I am still using a 2 warrior, 1 mage, 1 rogue setup and it is fun for combat because you get to see a lot of different styles. During particularly heated battles there will be a slow-mo effect when one of your pawns decides to do something insane or try a group tactic, and it is addictively fun if different types are involved. For example, had one against a giant lizard guy where -- in slow mo -- my fellow warrior pinned his arms from behind and then shouted for help, the rogue shot the lizard quickly in the head with 3 arrows, and then my warrior smashed him away with a popup attack (which I had already triggered before the slowmo even started). It made me want to go get a cigarette afterwards and I don't even smoke.

I do recommend having at least 1 warrior in your group be it you or a pawn, not just because they seem to be the most self-sufficient, but because they're great at crowd control. Most even have a skill where they beat their weapon on their shield to draw attention away from other pawns.

This is it! I'm tired of this ********! I'm going to buy RIGHT NOW. I loved the demo, but I started having doubts because the medium rating of reviews, I just love medieval RPGs!

With this and Diablo III (which I already finished twice: once with a barb and once with a witch doctor), I think I'm saying goodbye to natural light.

I just bought it! Sadly it requires 4.11 version of the PS3's software, so I'm updating now. Also I'm sure there have been some patches since launch, are they big (size)?

For the amount of spells involved, is it easy to switch and use them on PS3 or console in general. i think spell and ability access is a big factor when deciding which platform to buy a game for.

They do seem to be patching fairly often, and the DLC stuff is annoying. I already got a prompt for something about a new quest DLC coming out every week as if that were a good thing, and offers for others that seemed to be Fable III level of stupid ("a new and exciting hat DLC!"). I key past those prompts as fast as I can and then curb stomp some bandits in my Skyrim-themed horned helmet just to feel better.

Well, I have my first real gripes. I accidentally got stuck with some sort of escort quest basically from talking to a random knight, and the guy kills himself constantly. I'll be walking down a road and just suddenly get a big angry "quest failed!" msg because he hurled himself off a cliff or tried to swim out to sea or something. Since there's only one savefile I can't go back to a point before I picked up this idiot, and as soon as he kills himself I have to quit w/o saving and reload, which is slow and tedious. Worse, on the map the place I have to deliver him is as far away from me through uncharted territory as I've traveled the entire game so far, and since he kills himself 6 times a kilometer it'd take about 2 months of actual playing time to get him there safely. Got to the point last night where I finally just let him fail his own quest and moved on, which is frustrating since the reward looked to be some sort of unique magic weapon, and who knows if he was central to some plotline.

Also, I raided a random temple and kept picking up stone tablets that are flagged as quest items, although they seem to have no use anywhere in the temple. I have 5, each one weighs 10 lbs, and I can't drop them because they're quest items. So until I figure out what they're for, my character is stuck at fully encumbered. After scrubbing the temple 4 times my horrible suspicion is that I need to deliver these to some random NPC somewhere in the world to finish a quest I haven't even triggered yet, and until I do my guy will waddle like a duck and tire after 3 swings.

If you go to one of the quest boards, you can cancel most escort missions from them, and then just come back to it later, however most escort missions seem to have a time/level limit or just go away after a while.

Also tip on weight, if things are to heavy, just make your pawns carry them, and then just deposit them at the inn until later when you need them big grin Also it seems you dont need to carry around your crafting materials, when I would upgrade my stuff, the stuff I had deposited at the inn was available at the upgrade menu.

Digitalyzed wrote:Right, I know this is pretty unrelated to Dragons Dogma, but has anyone here played Two Worlds 2? I just think DD sounds like a similar game, and I know very few people who have played TW2.

Yep, I played TW2 and enjoyed it (come to think of it, I don't think I finished it). I got it at a time when there weren't any new RPG's on the horizon. I don't think it got the credit it deserved becauseit is a pretty decent game and at least you get to create a character that doesn't look like it fell out of the ugly tree.

I also played another RPG last spring called Divinity ll - The Dragon Knight Saga. This was a more tongue in cheek affair, as it had a sense of humour. I really liked this one because halfway through you get to turn into a dragon and boy was that fun, flying around toasting your enemies. I guess my avatar says it all where dragons are concerned. This was another underrated game in my opinion and well worth a punt, especially as you got the first game as a freebie, so two games for the price of one.

Yes, I also played Two Worlds 2 and enjoyed it. Dragon's Dogma is better though. It has a very similar open world feel with character customization, but the added fun of a real party dungeon crawling that I haven't enjoyed this much since Planescape: Torment. Your pawns aren't just extra guns or pack mules like Fallout 3 (which I loved) -- they have personalities, they interact, they even find hidden items or develop new tactics. You can even find actual books and scrolls that teach them things; last night I found a scroll about advanced Cyclops fighting tactics, and when I read it all my pawns got smarter. The next time we ran into a Cyclops, they swarmed it and killed it in 30 seconds like a wave of army ants. And when I release my two borrowed pawns, they even take that new knowledge with them back to their owners' games. It's very interesting.

Re item storage yes you can leave all your crafting supplies at the inns, which I do before I leave town. The issue I have is basically the items are so heavy (total of 50 lbs) that anyone carrying them gets over encumbered even though my main has a skill that doubles his carrying capacity. And because they're quest items I'm not sure I can drop them at an inn.

Oh hell, I really want this game but I daren't buy it because a) I've no spare cash at the 'mo, had to spend a ton of money on an outfit for a wedding in July, which I didn't want to do because I'm not into fancy gear, normally I'm a jeans & t-shirt person + leather jacket, don't wear skirts hardly at all. b) If I get it I just know Dark Souls, Skyrim & FFXlll-2 will be put on the back burner and I'm still after the Platinum for Dark Souls.

Guess it's one for later like The Witcher, which I also want to play badly.
