Fighting Unlocked
So, I've been loving this because with my fire halberd, I do decent damage, and I can roll, then swing back behind me in a wide arc. The problem is, I seem to not be able to see very well, so quite a bit I'll miss, then I'll get BS'ed because, well, let's face it, a miss with a halberd is punishing as HECK. But recently, I've tried doing this with combustion, and a bit less blind shots. But these past two guys have BS'ed me while I was unlocked. The second one while I was spinning around trying to get him OFF my back. (BS fisher). I've heard this is supposed to work, and it has in the past for me, but how in the heeeeck do these people do it? and how can I improve my unlocked fighting?

Re: Fighting Unlocked
Unlocked fighting works best with a weapon with a large sweep attack (curved greatswords and the MSGS). With things like spears of GC its a lot harder since your area to hit is much smaller. GC is fine to use lock on, its speels like the fireballs that you need to manually aim.

Re: Fighting Unlocked
A halberd has a very reliable roll attack that has almost 360 sweep. Incredibly hard to miss with since it's so long, and hard to block if I roll and sweep behind them. Problem is, sometimes they'll dodge away (usually if I try the same trick twice) then I'll be staggered like a mofo, then they'll dodge behind me (not on my screen, but I don't fault them) and BS me. I JUST got someone, though, by switching it up. I tried starting off with no lock on and sticked with it a bit too much before. I tried switching it up this time, and it seemed to work out.
Lock on melee, non lock on melee, and pyromancy seems to throw enough people off for me to win a fight, if I can pull it off just right.

Re: Fighting Unlocked
You can cast GCF at your feet then use tempest. They wont be able to see you doing it and they wont dare come near you. To switch it up after the first roll attack start rolling without attacking.

Re: Fighting Unlocked
Ahh, but I need them to come near me. I actually can read my opponent enough to know when to cast fire tempest. I haven't gotten BS'ed using it in a while. They either can dodge away barely, or they get caught up in it. I just forget about it sometimes, as I want to get my melee skills up at the moment.DoughGuy wrote:You can cast GCF at your feet then use tempest. I just played a guy. Tried the whole roll without the sweep thing you just said (I'm playing right now, and typing. Kinda hard), and it seemed to work out, I hit him a few times without rolls, then I was rolling around, then I hit him with a sweeping roll, staggered him, forgot to lock on, did my normal attack (which is a piece of piss to try to hit without lock on) and missed. He then walked behind me and got me.. Tis the punishment of missing with a halberd. At least, close range like that.

Re: Fighting Unlocked
I suggest dumping the Halbred and going for the Scythe. Anytime I fight a BS fisher I pull out my Scythe and punish them. The 1H R2 is a full 360 degree sweep and the 2H R2 is a full 720 degree sweep. I just switch between locked and unlocked and make heavy use of the R2s, i get sneaky hits in with it and even if they get the BS its interrupted by my attack and I recieve no damage despite going through the animation. Add to this the Scythe's R1 combo is a narrow long range attack followed by a 180 degree sweep and you have a sick moveset for dealing with those BS fishing pricks.

Re: Fighting Unlocked
I should have clarified. I have the G.Halberd. Exact same move-set, but more damage. And ya, I do that a lot, but even if I do a full 360, they can usually dodge it, and then punish me while I'm staggered from the miss. Idk. I can hit them the first time I use this trick, but not the second time.Federally wrote:I suggest dumping the Halbred and going for the Scythe. Can you get in a pivot pary in time? Or even just rolling?

Hmm. I do have the parrying dagger in my offhand, but I just haven't tried it in PVP since I did some solo hosting in the forest at SL30. Should I try parrying? My build is in my signature. At the bottom.

I know tahts why I suggested it. If you can turn around in time it should work.

Spend more time locked on and use the 2h R2. Just don't see how you get BS'd doing that.

They dodge, I'm staggered from missing, they BS. I'm dead. Happens more often than you think =/Federally wrote:JoeBroski09 wrote:I should have clarified. I have the G.Halberd. Re: Fighting Unlocked
I must just be fighting idiots. Almost everytime I hit the 2H R2 they dodge the first swipe, come for the BS and get nailed by the 2nd. Or they just dodge both and wind up far enough away I can roll away before a counter attack from them.

Re: Fighting Unlocked
Fighting unlocked is both great and a PITA. Do a combination. Relock back on to center yourself back at your opponent, then unlock. Or, better yet, do some fighting locked on and some locked off and throw your opponent for a loop.

Re: Fighting Unlocked
The key to locked/unlocked fighting is to know why you're doing it so you'll know WHEN to do it. It doesn't really help to fight unlocked just for the sake of fighting unlocked, but if you're trying to dead angle, manually aim spells, pivot BS or something like that, then it makes sense. Like Reim said, toggle back and forth as needed.

Re: Fighting Unlocked
i always am locked on, mostly because im good at preventing backstabs and my main form of attack is parrying IF the fight isint laggy. people who unlock are either pros or desperate for a backstab.

Re: Fighting Unlocked
Screwed around with the G halbred and the Scythe today. I think the G Halbred is slower, though it does have the same moves, and that could have something to do with why I've had success where you've had failure Joe.

Re: Fighting Unlocked
I've had much less failure now that I unlock less and I use my pyromancies more. I have an whole artillery of them, And I learned how to roll bs today. I actually did it to someone spamming WoG. Felt pretty nice. Dodge, unlock, dodge, BS. Done. Haha!
I upped my camera sensitivity, so I can swing it around while I roll in order to see if I should swing coming out. So I don't miss much with my halberd anymore.

Re: Fighting Unlocked
I always slam stick sensitivity to the maximum on all the games I play now. Thanks a lot CoD sniping.
And roll BSing is an awesome technique to have, just don't go crazy with it. When I first figured it out, I did it so much I sort of forgot I could do other ****. Then I felt like I had cheesed a lot of the fights beforehand when I was spamming it.

Re: Fighting Unlocked
I don't plan on doing it too much. I just learned to spint bs, too. I felt cheap already. Now I just do that kind of stuff to punish poorly timed spells. And WoG XD.
And sniping in CoD? How many X's and lowercase i's were in your name? hahahahah! Ahhh... I have control freekz, too. And I just got used to them.(I used them to up my sensitivity in CoD from 4 to 6. Doesn't need to be super high to use my AUG or Famas to capture and defend B) So I should have upped my sensitivity a long time ago in DkS.

Re: Fighting Unlocked
I went between 8 and 9 sniping and around 6 for reg guns. I never got into the whole trickshotting phase on CoD. I've got some 360s and stuff like that, but none of that 1080 button mashing junk in SnD. Something more along the lines of Grizz's style, except clearly not even close to as good. I play on southpaw controls though. Way easier for that stuff.
Man, we're way off topic now. Haha.

Re: Fighting Unlocked
Look at my signature haha!
I would play tactical with an inverted y-axis. Idk why I have to play consoles that way. I never really sniped much, though. I felt bad for my team when I did. I usually just did "tryhard" and tried to win no matter what. I'm a people pleaser XD haha!

Unlocking with the Mura when you get TWoP casted on you is one of the best tactics for fighting BS fishers, as far as I'm concerned.
