    Magic required? Empty Magic required?

    Post by jwetzel22 Mon Jan 30, 2012 5:39 pm

So I've been playing for quite a while and got comfortable with a warrior knight type guy and it seems like all the covenants really help with just miracles and magic stuff. I'm not really using any magic for PvE but i kind of want to start some PvPing, is there any way to stand a chance just using weapons? I feel like with so many covenants boosting miracles I might need to go that way to compete. I guess I just wish some weapons had better scaling with dex and str and stuff.

Before we answer your question, what are you stats currently. The short answer is, yes you can play melee only, but your toon needs to be optimized for it. It will help us if we knew a little more.

Also moving this to the player help section.

No, you don't need any magic ability to pvp. If you're a dex and/or str build, you might think about a low-grade buff, like greater magic weapon and an oolacile catalyst. This combo is fairly effective with a minimal stat investment. Pyromancy is also a good backup, and it requires no stat investments.

There are absolutely solid weapons that scale with dex and strength. Perhaps the most commonly used weapon right now is the black knight great axe (BKGA). It's a seriously powerful weapons that doesn't require any sort of magic to use. Other massive weapons are also viable. The great club, for instance, is a beast with its running one-handed R1 more. The large club has a funny and often effective one-handed R2. Both weapons scale (A?) with strength and don't require buffs to be effective.

Magic is an option, and makes PvE easier than a pure melee build (why is fairly obvious) but you have to specialise your character to focus on magic to be any good.

Pure melee works, and you can get a load of power out of weapons, jut need to pick up and upgrade the right ones (with good scaling or high base power for elemental)

I would say put some VIT and work with a dex weapon and a INT buff (crystal magic weapon)

On the other hand I would say, just admit you're stats at that level, you need to add more vit and dex, using up another 30 SL roughly at least.

youll be SL100, then decide if you want bit more in vit and End to get to 40 on each and some levels into attunement and go crazy on pyromancy (if you havent killed bed of chaos)

if you have, then do what Car says. but i think pyro would be better to resurrect your build to make use of some magic.
