Classes
You will pave your path into the class of gladiator you choose.
- Spoiler:
- Samnite
Samnites were an early class of our gladiators - these warriors are evenly matched with their strength and dexterity - you must have equal strength and dexterity in order to use this class - the rest of your stat allocations are up to you.
The Samnite is armed with:
Pila: Javelin/spear - You may use the Pike, Partisan or Spear for this class.
Gladius: Roman short sword - in this case the Broadsword is the weapon of choice.
Scutum: Eagle Shield (rectangular or oval).
Greave: Balder Leggings.
Plumed Helmet: When the Prepare to Die DLC is released - Artorias helm
Laquearius
The Laquerius were a rather odd type of gladiator - these warriors were armed with a pugio and a whip they tended to be dextrous due to their weapon choice. You require a minimum of 10 more dexterity than you have strength minimum dexterity level 30.
The Laquerius is armed with:
Pugio: This is a Roman Dagger - Dagger
Laqueus: This is a form of a Whip - notched whip/whip.
Pugnum: A small buckler type shield - Any small shield except CRS
Galerus: Armguards around wrists: Iron bracelets
Mask: Giant Helm.
Murmillo
The Murmillo fighting style was suited for men with large muscular arms and strong heavy shoulders needed to help him carry the weight of his shield and sword. Murmillo depended on his strength and endurance to survive the battle against foes who were more suited to attacking. The tower shield gives him an edge in defense and his gladius also gives him the ability to thrust and swing at his enemies when in close range. The Murmillo are also trained to kick their enemies with the thick padding worn around their legs. You must have a minimum of 40 endurance and vitality - you also must have 20 more strength than you have dexterity - the minimum strength requirement for this class is 30.
The Murmillo is armed with:
Gladii: Silver knight sword - or Bastard Sword.
Scutum: Tower shield. Eagle Shield
Manica: Arm guard. Preferably Elite Knight Gauntlets
Galea: A large helmet, usually made of bronze, with an ornate 'grill' face visor. Unfortunately it will intead be the Elite knight helm,
Greaves - Wanderers boots.
Thraex
The Thraex fighting style was suited for men who had long and toned bodies, resembling the tall and slender Thracian warrior. They fight with a fast paced and agile style that well matches the slower but heavily armored Murmillo.
The smaller parmula shield allows for the Thraex to move at a greater speed than an opponent carrying the larger scutum, while still remaining protected. The sica sword allows them to hook onto an enemy's shield and pull it out of the way, to then thrust at their opponent's exposed body. You must choose between 30 strength / 40 dex or 40 str / 30 dex.
The Thraex is armed with:
Sica: Shotel/Balder Side Sword or Falchion.
Parmula: A rectangular shield, half the size of the scutum. Black Knight Shield
Manica: Cotton or metal segments tied onto the striking arm for protection. Again Iron Bracelets
Griffin Helmet: A helmet with a small griffin on the top, resembling a Thracian deity. Ornsteins Helm
Greaves: Any
Hoplomachus
Hoplomachus is a gladiator fighting style representing the Greek, Illyrian and Carthage enemies of Rome. The style was made to resemble a lightly armored spear fighter much like the Greek and Illyrian warriors, the Hopilite. These Hoplites are varied - they can use many fighting styles therefore require 40 strength and dexterity.
The Hoplomachus was armed similar to the Hopilite:
Dory: A 7-8 foot long spear designed for thrusting. Pike/Partisan
Gladius Graecus (long sword). Balder Side Sword
Manica: Segmented cotton or metal armguard. Iron Bracelets
Linen greaves worn like long pants. Heavy Boots
Hoplon: A smaller iron version of the bronze Greek Aspis, worn on the arm. Iron round shield
Hoplomachus Helmet: a mid-weight helmet. Mask of Velka.
Secutor
Secutor is a gladiator fighting style similar to the Murmillo, in that they were well-armored but instead they were based around the use of a axe and shield. Due to their similarities with the Murmillo they must have 10 more strength than they do dexterity - the minimum strength they may have is 25.
the Secutor was armed with:
Securis: Roman Single bladed axe. Hand Axe/Battle Axe
Hoplon: Small shield. Iron Round Shield or Balder Shield.
Manica (right arm): cotton or metal segments tied onto the striking arm for protection. Balder Gauntlets/Travelling Gloces
Ocrea (left leg): a leather or metal greave to protect the leg beneath the shield. Balder Leggings
Secutor Helmet: a helmet with two small eye-holes, rounded top and neck-protective flanges. Fang Boar Helm
Retiarius
Retiarii wielded a net, which could be used to trap opponents or to ensnare weapons, while the trident (fascina) they wielded would keep opponents at a distance. The retiarius would fight with little armour, usually only a subligaria and no helmet or foot gear. He would also rely on evasive tactics to stay out of range of the weapon of his opponent.Due to no net being in the game these gladiators employ the use of dung pies and can replace this offhand net with a weapon of choice.
Rete: A weighted net used to trap opponents. Any weap
Fascina: A three-pointed trident, as tall as a human being. Channellers Trident
Pugio: A dagger. Exactly what it says - a dagger.
Manica and galerus: Two guards to protect the arm and shoulder. Hollow Soldiers armor
Greaves: Hollow soldiers loincloth.
