How is the Dragonslayer Spear in PVP, I absolutely love it's range, and I would think that alone would make it at least partially usable, especially in a build that uses quite a bit of faith.

Dragonslayer Spear
I've been working with it for awhile now, and I like the moveset, but I haven't had the time to really test it in PVP.

Low damage but if you learn to dodge reliably it is nearly unstoppable and frankly is my most feared weapon in PvP

Re: Dragonslayer Spear
If you have a dex/fai build the range it gives you is a bonus...and you get B scaling from both dex and faith.

Re: Dragonslayer Spear
Split damage dex boosts physical faith boosts lightning. focus on the physical aspect and dont expect too much damage. its a wear the opponent down weapon.
although I'm not sure I am the most qualified to advise I dont think any of that will lead you astray have fun destroying us poor greatsword users.

Bwahahahahaha!
As a GS user myself, I'm familiar with getting poked to death while trying to power through. Time to join the other team.
Besides, if I really need to lay the hammer down, my backup is a +15 Iaito and I always carry a Sunlight Blade with me ;D

I use the G. Halberd, so I haven't had too much if a problem with it, It's fairly difficult to dodge some g.halberd moves and pyromancy combined. I just know I don't have a shield, so I'm sure if I went against someone good with it, like Dough, I'd have some pretty big troubles haha!

Re: Dragonslayer Spear
Just be careful to make your moves unpredictable as much as possible. Getting greedy often leads to parries. Most people know you're gonna need a lot of hits to win and will bait the r1 from you. Like my great scythe. The assumption is I will only use r2 because of the arc. Gotta mix it up

Re: Dragonslayer Spear
^Yes. Be especially careful of using the roll-R1. I always catch people using that attack too much, and it's easy to parry.
The DSS, like all poking weapons, is great because it takes advantage of lag. Its attacks are so quick that they're very hard for your opponent to dodge if he wasn't already rolling. And they have no cooldown after attack, so you yourself can roll away right after attacking. (I've said this many times before...) So you're hard to dodge, and hard to hit. You just need to be weary of 2 things:
- Turtles
- Getting parried
So people who turtle behind a shield that can parry are especially dangerous to you. Ideally, you should have something on hand that will help you break their guard. Since you need Fth to wield the spear, it would be convenient to take advantage of Force and WoG for this. As for not getting parried, you need to make sure you're not spamming R1 too much. And if you do perform successive attacks, try and vary their timing and delay them. Also, as much as possible, try to keep your opponent at the edge of your range, where it's very hard to parry the spear, and vary your attack patterns. Poke-and-roll is a good strategy, but I wouldn't recommend poke-roll-poke, because like I said earlier the roll-R1 is easy to parry.
It's a very viable PvP weapon, but to be honest, personally, I find it gets boring fast. Poke-and-roll is what you'll be relying on most of the time, and will get very repetitive, and turtles will get annoying.

Re: Dragonslayer Spear
Im prefer to use the r1 for range and thas it. I dotn like to hit with it, I feel its too slow. I like to r1 till Im ready, get them in close, then the hard part, rolling just as they attack. You'll dodge their attack and get a free roll r1 that they cant parry. Its how I fight with it.

Re: Dragonslayer Spear
Combine it with a high damage weapon and switch between.. This class of weapon works for certain players and certain combat scenario, not all type..
It can get pretty boring if that's your only weapon, and once you become predictable..fun's over. Plus due to the low damage, means you have to land more hit to kill someone..
So make sure you get a high damage, wide swipe weapon to complement it's weakness.
Overall in a hand of a professional is deadly..

Re: Dragonslayer Spear
I find that for some weird reason the split damage on it isn't as bad as chaos weapons. I can't really notice a difference between it and a Chaos pike +4 with 10 humanity (DSS AR=427, Chaos Pike AR=470). It also uses less stamina than the pike, the pike being the only spear with more range. I'd recommend it, as I'm far from expert, but I've met quite a few people who are and they mostly destroy my poor self (I use the GLGS or the DGM, and only carry the spear for backup).
One tip is not to stunlock with it, it's not a GS. If you do stun your enemy, don't use your whole stamina bar comboing them. If they're high level, they'll survive and punish your helpless self, a lesson I learned in blood.
