For all you Dex/ Fth builds out there, or those debating whether to go the Int hybrid route or Fth; or just those wanting to add a little kick to their hit and are still wary of investing in Sunlight Blade, I bring you: All You Need To Know about Sunlight Blade (*or almost...). Without further ado:

    - Sunlight Blade scales with your Talisman's Magic Adjust stat. It does not scale with your Faith stat. Your Talisman's Mag Adj, on the other hand, will scale with your Fth. It's important to make the distinction (blah... blah... I've said this before!) because wielding the wrong Talisman will not give you the best return on Fth SL investments.

    - Sunlight Blade provides a static buff. That is to say, it does not scale with your weapon's base stats. Interpret that how you will, but in effect it means smaller and faster weapons benefit more from the spell than slower, larger ones.

    - The magic number is: 1.8

    1.8 x Mag Adj = Buff amount*

*(Be aware that there are hidden decimals at play in both your weapon's base stats and in the buff amount, therefore this equation is good to within 1 damage rating of the final result.)

Once we have comprehensive data on the Mag Adj stats of all Talismans within a decent range (30-50, at the minimum, should do it) you'll be able to calculate which will be more profitable between investing in scaling stats or pumping more levels into Fth. Simply take the Mag Adj x 1.8 and compare with the amount the leveling screen is telling you your scaling stat would increase your damage rating by.

    - Duration: 1:00 minute

    - No equipment or rings will increase the buff amount of Sunlight Blade--none! Also, the Dusk Crown Ring does not grant you additional castings (tested with only 1 attuned--I only have 1 ATM. But even if you had 2... really who needs 3 SLBs at the cost of 1/2 your hp!)

-I DID NOT TEST: The Lingering Dragoncrest Ring's possible effects on this miracle (hence "almost all you need to know".) My Build only has 8 Int and that douchebag Griggs won't sell me his rings even though I saved his life--should've let him rot (oh well he suffered the wrath of my gods, channeled through me, on a whim. Served him right).

BE AWARE that, although CMW's magic number is 1.4 compared to SLB's 1.8, it would not be judicious to compare the two spells 1:1. Since both use different casting apparatuses, the Mag Adj stats will be different for either at the same Int or Fth level. Therefore, since Mag Adj is all that matters here, you should compare Mag Adjusts at the same SL rather than each's respective magic number. (For example: the Tin Crystallization Catalyst at 32 Int has a considerably higher Mag Adj than any Talisman. And since it will reduce your number of CMW castings to 1, it makes perfect grounds for comparison. Therefore 1.4 x TCC's Mag Adj compared to 1.8 x Talisman at the same SL may provide an equal buff.)

Finally, the real difference between SLB and CMW lies in what each grants you incidentally. Going the Fth route will allow you to use, among other things, the Wrath of the Gods miracle, whereas Int will allow you to use Homing Crystal Soul Mass, et al. Ultimately your decision to go either SLB or CMW should lie in these spells, rather than in each's respective buffs.

*Comprehensive info on Mag Adjusts for Catalysts and Talismans pending. If you want to help out, mention it in a reply!

I apologize for seeming a bit slow here but I'm a bit confused on the magic adjustment vs faith stat thing. At a higher faith level is it better to go with a talisman with high mag adj or better scaling? If I understand it correctly, the faith scaling improves the mag adj which in turn improves the sunlight blade miracle.

THANKS ALOT! I really need this number for my new character-build!

Lingering doesn't work on miracles, I tested it out on DMB and KJ.

Thanks Ringmaster, I think that's all I was missing!

    @T

That question can't be answered until we have data on the Mag Adj stat of all Talismans. Once we do, you can use the equation (increase in Mag Adj for 1 Fth level x1.8 versus increase in scaling from 1 Stat level), but until then it's all guesswork.

Thinking of runnin a new char as a cleric. I guess it's great that they start of with a canvas talisman (~220 mag. adj.) happy

My canvas Tali at 30 Fth has 172 Mag Adj.

On my Iaito +15 (base dmg: 360) it brings it up 309 points to 669.

    Bump.

    Thanks for the bump johnny!

I finally decided to add this info to the wiki:

If anyone feels like adding the spell's in-game description, the page would be complete.

Nice. You finally did it. I thought SLB would have better scaling than 1.8. Therefore DMB is still superior.... I am glad that I chose DMB and being in Darkmoon Covenant all along!

Also btw, if you need to know the magic adjust of each faith level for each talisman, you can get it from Darksoul Calculator.

But this was posted in my post to show the highest possible MagAdj from 30-45 faith (* Faith 46-50 are obtained from Darksoul Calculator)

    FAI MA Talisman

    30 172 Canvas Talisman

    31 173 Canvas Talisman

    32 175 Canvas Talisman

    33 177 Canvas Talisman

    34 179 Canvas Talisman

    35 181 Canvas Talisman

    36 182 Canvas Talisman

    37 184 Canvas Talisman

    38 186 Canvas Talisman

    39 187 Canvas Talisman

    40 191 Darkmoon Talisman

    41 194 Darkmoon Talisman

    42 198 Darkmoon Talisman

    43 201 Darkmoon Talisman

    44 205 Darkmoon Talisman

    45 208 Darkmoon Talisman

    46 211 Darkmoon Talisman

    47 215 Darkmoon Talisman

    48 219 Darkmoon Talisman

    49 222 Darkmoon Talisman

    50 226 Darkmoon Talisman

Now someone should test out if ranking up on sunlight covenant increase SLB damage.

Yeah, but I never trust the accuracy of those calculators. In fact I'd be happy if anyone could confirm that none of the info contained in this wiki is from a calculator, but rather comes from in-game tests.

Also someone brought up an interesting point about DMB vs SLB in another thread: DMB adds magic damage whereas SLB adds lightning. Would affect the end damage due to different defense stats. So even two faith buffing spells can't be compared 1:1!

Sunlight Blade and Darkmoon Blade at 50 faith with Darkmoon Talisman.

My testing scenario will be to test on enemies reached easily by the warpable bonfires so:

    1. skeleton in graveyard

    2. normal zombie (no shield) in undead berg

    3. Ghost in New Londo Ruins

    4. Gravelord Knight in New Londo Ruins

    5. Fire Beetle in Blight Town

    6. Boulder Throwing Barbarian in Blight Town.

    7. Mushroom Parent in Ash Lake

    8. Clam in Ash Lake

    9. Giant that casts Wrath of God in Anor Lando

    10. White Gargoyle lightning demon things in Anor Lando

I will post results hopefully tomorrow unless my "honeydew" list impedes the testing.

Disclaimer: Currently I am level 2 in Darkmoon not level 3.

So just a question here, if you have a claw with a A scaling in dex, your dex combat rating isnt added to the total combat rating if you use sunlight blade?

re: Sunlight Blade - AYNTK (All you need to know!)... Or almost.

    somebody_elseJan 11, 2012 3:17 pm

just to contribute to your stats

damage is also not upscaled on critical or dual handing. damage of all buffs is static buff

Someone want to help by doing the same thing for Crystal Magic Weapon?
