the friends of the souls series Empty the friends of the souls series

    Post by raecor14 Thu Jul 19, 2012 11:15 am

so i was recently reading another post on the friendships in dark souls in comparison to the friendships in demons souls and while his points where interesting it made me think more about the relationships in demons souls. Their point was that dark souls has more friendly characters than demons but i can't see how thats true. in demons you had the monumental a guide who saw your potential and hand picked you for a quest that no one could do, even those much more powerful and experienced than you. stockpile Thomas is an obvious one but i think a lot of people miss how he acts like a father to you throughout the game, most likely to compensate for his daughter. sage freke acts like a teacher and tries to guide you in your choice at the end. yuria is like a mother and in her kindness is reluctant to teach you her magic because she dose not want you to follow the dark path she had chosen. saint urbain and his followers make you feel apart of something bigger than any one person. garl shows how not every action of good feels like it. patches is like a bully who had problems at home and we cant help but forgive him. the blacksmiths are hard but if you look deep enough you can see that they really do care about you and want you to succeed. Biorr is like an ally and creates that hope that is so needed in a world that even with all these people makes you feel so alone and last and perhaps the most important symbolic relationship in the game is ostarva he is like a little brother and the best friend you have in the game, he provides hope in the levels where it feels like all is lost, he is the only npc (excluding biorr) that you can speak with multiple times in a level without the intention of buying items, id bring up the merchants but they feel more like a utility than an actual person.

in conclusion while demons souls feels like a dead place where you are left on your own you really have a family all around you. comment opinions i really do enjoy feedback on my pondering

They are all leeches. They want souls, nothing more. Thomas is the only one who's actually caring for you without receiving anything in compensation.

I do like they are a little bit more "friendly" than the NPCs in Dark Souls (Solaire and Laurentius excluded). But as it is always the case with the Souls series, there's more than meets the eye.

yria dosn't want souls she even states that she finds them dangerous. the only person who clearly states that all they want is souls is the merchants and the blacksmiths
