being accused of parry spamming.

So I had a host in the forest who really seems like an honorable chap, so I'm a bit confused about something that happened while fighting him.

so anyway, my build is a 0 poise rapier user with hornets and ring of fap equiped... so I do tend to parry if you're somewhat predictable, even if I don't yet know the timing of a parry (Curse you Scythe Users and that running attack... that -is- capable of being parried, right?)

Well the host I'm fighting has several builds, I've fought him using about 20 different weapons before, Dragonslayer Spear, Scythe, etc etc. Today I parried him twice while he was using a great sword, and I've parried him with about every other weapon he's used except that scythe.

Well today after he had a brawl with me where I ran for about 4 minutes while trying to get my build meter back down (Because screw letting that lifehunt scythe bleed me out!), I -finally- landed a parry on a scythe, and he sent me a message 2 minutes later telling me to stop parry spamming, or he'd be forced to backstab me.

I feel sad now.

Running attack of the Great Scythe is fairly easy to predict, and parry. To be honest, parry spamming is a tactic that can be responded to in a few ways that he might not have had access to: Great Combustion is the typical fallback counter, fast weapons can get a hit off a kick as a response to a parry attempt, and finally you can just strafe backstab a parry attempt you know is coming. Otherwise, attacks will only do small chip damage as partial parries eat up all the damage that would have been done.

Personally, the other player had no excuse for not figuring out a way to punish your parry attempts; 20 fights is 19 too many for a solution not to have been found. Ultimately, should he decide to play without backstabs, he should have used a Chaos Blade so that he could land hits off his kicks, or a Claymore to dead-angle with, even if he had no magic. Clearly, something wasn't working, and the blame lies with him to figure something out.

Parry spamming can actually work against you. All they have to do is delay their attack by a split second, and it is a free hit.

Not many can parry my scythe. Because i always change to be not predicable and plays unlock a lot. But in FC it still happen. All are pretty good parry here

Yeah... I know XD... I tend to only parry after my opponent has formed a really obvious pattern, such as spamming R1 on a greatsword, or always doing a rolling attack if in range....

He started getting "spammed" because he just kept doing running attacks whenever he got close to me, so I chose to practice parrying scythes on him. I just feel sad about being accused of spamming... I kind of feel it's only spamming when they just mash the parry button.

Scythe users tend to spam the dash attack because it's probably the best attack it has. Same with the Mura. For that reason it's fairly predictable. I'm generally not bothered by parry spam, but there are people who are "good" at it, in the sense that they know when to parry and do it a whole bunch.

That is the type of "parry spammer" I am... if you're predictable I'll throw 1 or 2 parries in less then 10 seconds and just end the match.

It's a loose interpretation of parry "spam". It's not like you're just standing there doing back to back parries, it's just a lot of parrying. I also don't consider it spam if the parries connect. If you parried x amount of times and the majority of them were timed properly, that's just solid gameplay. But if everytime we get within swinging distance the other player tries to parry, I'll catch on and punish appropriately pretty quickly. For that reason, I'm generally not bothered by spam.

Acually, I'm not really bothered by spam of any kind. It's sort of like "hey, I'm going to be doing this the whole time. Counter/punish me constantly."

Let me get this straight. You practice and practice to learn how to parry the various weapons... which means dying a lot.... and then when you figure it all out, you can't use it or your a parry spammer?!?! :affraid: I don't think so. Parry like you mean it. You earned it.

Ya I mean I have a 15 min montage of me parry spamming but I was doing it to be funny that's not how I duel...the questers would spam R1 and I would spam parry its like rolling the dice someones going to loose...if I just ran in there and dropped a lethal setup parry and ohko'd them in 10 seconds that's no fun lol!

Also as others have said its soooo easy to punish a parry with various techniques if that dude couldn't figure one out that's his problem!

I also usually use a darkhand and don't block so sometimes ill drop a late partial parry as a block since the darkhand animation can make it hard 2 see...this could be confused with spamming but there was no intention or thought of actually landing the parry!

On the topic nothing is more enjoyable to me than landing a lethal setup parry...its my fav thing to do in dark souls

Yeah, people don't tend to like the windmill parry strategy, including myself. Just parrying hoping for a lucky break (thats what most seem to do anyway) for me is the equivalent of turtling with a massive greatshield. It's just incredibly boring to play against :|

was your opponent blocking rynn? maybe they were a blocking spammer, ha. when someone is swinging at you, whats the difference if you push the block or parry button? i go for the parry

I block the first swing, and then the second... then roll away.
The next time they attack me, I block the first, then parry the second.

if this wer a poll, i would vote....not a spammer

I tend to parry spam, mostly because im hoping to get a blind parry.

You can actually parry a WoG if I'm not mistaken

and everytime I parry more than once, they just stop attacking and go for a BS. but yea, random duels are summed by "who get the first BS" anyway

I have parried WoG several times, i think i parried a CSS once too.

Yeah, you just eat the partial parry damage. It's really only useful if youve been TWoPed.

I respect people who can land a parry on me, but it really leaves a sour taste in my mouth when they parry all the time and one finally lands, OHKOing me.

^Better than OHK BS. If they parry you with HR then they actually deserved it.

Why? Spamming is a game of numbers, parry 100 times and chances are you'll land one, even if you know little about parrying. It can be beaten like any spamming can, but I wouldn't exactly congratulate someone who wins with no skill and basically plays a the numbers to determine their win.

Circle and BS, after he tries to parry you once you can BS him almost every time if you’re careful.
