slab farming
is it more efficient to farm titanite slab from crystal lizards in the great hollow or kill the darkwraiths in new londo? i killed over 200 darkwraiths today with 410 item find and not a single slab was found

Re: slab farming
Lizards, I always seem to get two on my way down. If they disappear you can just quit/reload a few times and they turn up again. It is much, much easier than the Darkwraiths, you can get 2 in about 10 minutes once you know where the lizards are

Lizards don't respawn, drop rate on wraiths isn't too bad with 10 humanity and gold ring

Re: slab farming
For what it's worth I've been able to determine, during my many slab farming trips to New Londo, that with a 410 discovery rate the Darkwraiths will generally drop one slab every twentieth run-through, or thereabouts, but if you're really lucky you can sometimes get them to drop two in the same period of time.

Re: slab farming
i was going intolondo ruins to recover my bloodstain and with 0 humanity and no gold ring i recieved some slabs in that one run, its been so long since it happened i believe it was 3 slabs.
i call Bull s**t on the item discovery number when it comes to the ultra rare drops. It has been the same case for when i get BSS or trident drops.

Re: slab farming
First time poster, long time lurker. I have been farming dark wraiths for what seems like days and I have yet to have seen a slab drop. I have about 15 dark hands and 45+ chunks, but no slabs and damn if I can remember what I did with the one I received from the stray demon. I probably used it on something stupid before I had somewhat of an idea on what to do in this game.

Re: slab farming
Welcome stereo.pete!
Yeah these slabs have a ridiculous rank of S when it comes to drops. I'm not sure what that translates to in terms of acquisition ratio, but I have NEVER gotten a wraith drop. The only slabs I've received are from the Stray Demon and the crystal lizards. I think when I finally get a wraith to drop im going to celebrate hard!

Re: slab farming
I was under the impression that you get 3 slabs per play through. One from crystal lizard in great hollow, return to assylum, and onion head. I've had plenty of luck farming darkwraiths whenever I needed more. It seems to be about 1 slab per 100 chunks or so.
At one point I was close to giving up and the game dropped a slab in consecutive runs. With a bit of patience they will drop one eventually.

This is good to know that they do actually drop, and I still have to figure out how to get that crystal lizard in the great hollow without falling to my death lol.

Re: slab farming
I think farming darkwariths is better.
i used the gold serpent ring and got 2 slabs in two runs.
if you want, i also find this video on youtube - /watch?v=9Pp-T55AdVE
it seems pretty dumb but i guess the method is good...

Re: slab farming
I remember my first trip to the great hollow. I tried to get every item. Died so much....
Jump off to the right of the ledge at the first bonfire. If you do it right you'll land on a branch that will curve upward. It shouldn't be too hard to figure out where to go from there. The drop to from the branch to one of the openings can be a bit tricky though.
Happy hunting!!

Re: slab farming
I'm in The Great Hollow at the moment trying to get slabs off crystal lizards. Trouble is just at the moment I see one, the darn thing disappears. It's fun though as long as you don't get cursed by the frogs. I equip the Cursebite Ring just to be on the safe side with Paladin Armour. The Fall Control spell is really useful too but it wont save you every time.

you could die a lot at great hollow trying to get those lizards
yesterday i went farming darwraiths for another dark hand, about 86 humanity(doesnt really matter since it stacks when its 10+) and the gold ring
on my second trip i got a slab and on my third i got the dark hand

The trick is to locate an area where the lizard will be, stand there then quit and reload. When the game starts up you should be standing over them. Rinse and repeat. The lizards also have a chance of not spawning so certain spawn points need a couple tries.

Re: slab farming
So I am up to 72 chunks, 0 slabs, I will be sure to notify everyone when it one finally drops. I do have another question, I'm using the symbol of avarice, which says it increases item find but the actual number does not. Does this item not stack with the gold serpent ring?

Re: slab farming
Stereo.Pete, they do not. The max item discovery you can have is 410, which is when you have 10 humanity and one of the two items equipped.

Re: slab farming
You should at least get one slab for every 100 chunks.
For some reason, I often have more luck getting slabs with 9 humanity and the gold serpent ring (or symbol of avarice), which gives me a total of 404 item discovery. It's probably just a coincidence.

Re: slab farming
I may be stating the obvious here, but if you go away and do something else then the likelihood of you getting a slab goes back down. Like I said, on the PS3 I am pretty much guaranteed to get at least one slab every twentieth run-through, or thereabouts, and so just stick with it until the slab drops.

Re: slab farming
I never knew this. Interesting if true. Anyone confirm this? (not that I don't believe you... just seems a little strange).
Also, what classifies as doing "something else"?
Since there's no bonfire in new lando, I'm forced to leave the area for the wraiths to re-spawn. I generally homeward bone to the darkroot bonfire.. sprint across the drake bridge and proceed with the farming. Does running through multiple areas (in my case very small part of darkroot, valley of drakes) before resuming my farming count as doing "something else"?
Would I have better luck if I warped to firelink instead of darkroot? In my experience it takes longer to get down to the wraiths this way, but there's less "areas" to pass (go directly from firelink to new lando).
Is it something as simple as a timer that decides if you've moved on to "something else".
Thanks for the clarification.

Re: slab farming
There's actually a pretty fast way down to the wraiths from the top side. There's that elevator in the very first room that you can take down or you can just drop down in the corner where the first two ghosts are.

Re: slab farming
I know about the elevator. I don't like using it because it forces me to back track a bit to get two wraiths. Never tried the drop, if it places me in the open area in front of the huge gate I may give it a go. I never timed it, but it just seemed faster to sprint across the bridge in the valley of drakes.

Re: slab farming
Valley of Drakes seem to be more convinient in my opinion. Especially so in my case, since I'm farming Dragon Scales, titanite Chunks and Slabs.
