Demon's and Dark are the same, right? (Demon/Dark continuity opinions )

As a guy who has played both Demon's Souls and Dark Souls, you can't help but think they are in the same world. There are obvious hints like good 'ol Patches. But there are also things that say otherwise; different gods, religions, factions, world origin story etc. But because Dark Souls takes place in a literal damaged time, that could warrant the same world.

I always thought that they either take place on different sides of the world, Dark Souls takes place first or at the same time, and if Dark Souls came first Demon's Souls is hundreds of years later.

I'm not getting in depth because I am a tad bit rusty with Demon's Souls lore,since I haven't played it in a few years since my PS3 was stolen. i just want to see if people agree with the series continuity and see other opinions on how they are connected.

Actually this is one of the few things that has been definitively stated. They're different worlds. Patches and other similarities are just nods to Demon's

What is a "world" hmmm? Do you not get invade by people from other "worlds"?
I'm glad you pointed that out, I'd be stuck in my multiverse of not knowing.

Yeah as Skare said the developer has stated they are differnt. Sure reaper claims this is for copyright reasons but that stills means they are different.

I thought it would play out this way, too. The broken archstone was for "the land of the giants", and Lordran is full of them. I think had the developers not stated that they were completely different, we would have quite a lot of ways to link the worlds.

Yeah. If I recall correctly, those giants (the ones of the broken archstone) died due to the plague. Now, we have a tomb of the giants.

Well, we can use summon stones to enter other "worlds", I don't see why we couldn't really enter other planets through the same way.

in this case i think "world" means dimension, entering in others dimensions doesn't mean you can enter other planets

Yeah, Dark Souls and Demon's Souls have been definitively stated to be completely different multiverse, if you will. Every person that you summon exists in a different universe, but within the same multiverse.

Legally, FROM has to say they're different universes since Sony still owns the IP for Demon's Souls. It is my opinion that Dark Souls was originally meant to be a Demon's Souls 2, but had to be altered after development started due to this legal issue.

Seriously, some themes are just way too similar. Some characters in terms of personality basically ARE Demon's Souls characters, just with different names and different looking armor (Lautrec = Yurt, Logan = Freke, etc.)

Then there's the whole giants deal. We know in Dark Souls's history that there was once a war between the Demons and Gwyn's followers (who are certainly much larger than humans; aka Giants), and in Demon's Souls history we know that the Land of the Giants was taken over by the Demons. Knowing these two things, how do you look at a place called "The Tomb of the Giants" and not think something is up?

Oh, and King Jeremiah and the Old Monk. The Old Monk was a ruler of Latria who was banished, only to return with demonic golden robes and a thirst for souls, and in Dark Souls there's a character called King Jeremiah who wears menacing golden robes, invades others for their souls, and is known to Lordran as "The Legendary Exile?" Yeah...nothing similar there at all.

The developers said that if they said that Demon's and Dark Souls were connected the would be in big trouble.
Personally I think that Dark and Demon Souls are not connected but two different interpretations of the same story.

You get given the Darksign when you become Undead; Patches appears in Dark Souls because he becomes Undead at some point.

Also, I don't see the relevance of the following, but there's been a lot of Demon's Souls references in the DLC. Chester calls Artorias "the colorless sort" (Colorless Demon's Soul), Manus is a Primeval Human (There were Primeval demons), the Dark Silver Tracer is a nod towards Garl Vinland's Dark Silver Shield and so on.
