Choose lightning/chaos whichever you like better.

This is one of my favorite weapons. At 6 weight with a base physical damage of 115 it's pretty good.
I suggest you upgrade it with fire or lightning to the max. Unless you're going to go ridiculously high with your stats, element upgrades are the way to go.

Re: Gargoyle Halberd
It's one of my favorites as well. However, if you're planning on using a buff for pvp, recognize that other players will often not allow you the time to do it. I switched to the Scythe because it has higher base damage at Normal +15 (but the exact same moveset), so when I'm stuck without the buff, I get ~50 more phys damage than with the Gargoyle Halberd..
Gargoyle is good as a Lightning or Chaos - I have both - but tend to use the Lightning version since I think (joking) that fire defense is more common.

Re: Gargoyle Halberd
GH has great damage, but also has bad drawback... almost no poise knocking
for dex/int i'd go with normal+15 and CMW.

Re: Gargoyle Halberd
I used this weapon just to get the best enchanted weapon trophy for my character!
should have chosen a better weapon instead. oh well.
the weapon is nice though considering it has low stat requirement.

I use this all of the time. I plan on going +15 then Enchant/Resin for whatever the situation calls for. IMO, much better deal.

Re: Gargoyle Halberd
I tried using this (hoping to find a second weapon I liked) and though it had great damage I realized very quickly it wouldn't be a good fit. I can see it being useful PvE but you're at an enormous disadvantage with it in PvP. If you miss the standard R1 attack you might as well put a giant bullseye on your back. Every single one of the attacks is badly telegraphed. Every time I fight someone who uses this halberd I get backstabs galore.

Thanks for reminding me how much I liked this weapon. Spent the evening using my lightning +5 gargoyle halberd and kicked butt.

Re: Gargoyle Halberd
I have a +14 (using my only slab didn't seem worth it) and I think it's OK for PvE, but Im starting to think it was a mistake since my lightning longsword (only +3) does more damage, is lighter and faster. I guess I'll jsut revert it back to +10 and go lightning :| or fire. Probably fire. Lightning is too common, so I'm going fire.

Holy Necrobump! lol
Personally I'm more fond of the normal Halberd now, less damage but it has more style and a faster attack.

Re: Gargoyle Halberd
Ok. I am here. I didn't feel like reading a thread talking about things I already knew
Anyway, it's freaking awesome if you hit every time. So, don't miss, keep your distance, and BY GOSH don't do the 1h r1 attack. Low attack and big stagger and easy to just side step. Not worth it at all.
The G. Halberd is extremely punishing and extremely rewarding at the same time. I just got a guy down to almost 0 health by just dodging, keeping my distance, and kind of "poking" at him. But it did way more damage than a normal spear would have done. But, alas, I tried to practice my parry, and the guy did a strong attack with the Zwei.
Anyway, just keep practicing, and keep your distance. It's great

Normal? Anything that lets you fast roll. Cause you gottah get away fast when you miss, and you HAVE to keep your distance with that pokey pokey.
