I enjoyed DS a lot and went to DeS just to check it out. Why is it so hard to bs in DeS compared to DS? I stand behind the target with shield lowered and r1 but its hit or miss with 50/50 chance of BS'ing on good days. What is going on?

Re: Backstabs in Demon Souls
Different backstab window.
From my point of view,it's better the DeS way.

Lol. Until I get the timing in DeS right I don't think thats an option. Especially when the knight OHKO's me.

Re: Backstabs in Demon Souls
Backstab windows were much, much smaller in Demon's Souls. It basically required you to sneak up on the enemy (which if you ask me is how it should be :|). In Dark Souls they expanded it so that as long as you were around your opponent's shoulder it basically considered it a BS, but in Demon's Souls they made it so that you have to be squarely behind them. Basically, as long as you can still see your opponent's face, then you can't BS them in Demon's Souls.

Re: Backstabs in Demon Souls
So a rule of thumb that I can follow is that BS will only work when I can't see the enemy's face at all as opposed to being directly behind their back?

Re: Backstabs in Demon Souls
Unless you're a stealther, I wouldn't bother trying to bs 97% of the time in pve, its more trouble than its worth. You have to be directly behind them. if you can see their cheeks it probably won't work.
Even in pvp if the opponent has any experience they'll just counter bs you.

Re: Backstabs in Demon Souls
I don't get why you and reaper say that, in PvP I BS people from the side about as much as I could in Dark Souls. To my knowledge game hasn't been patched either.

Re: Backstabs in Demon Souls
The backstab window is much smaller Compared to Dark Souls. The timing on parry is also smaller. If they would have used the same Backstab window from De's in Dark Souls, backstabing woulden't be much of a Problem.

Re: Backstabs in Demon Souls
Backstabs in demon's is fine. Its how it should be. Dark just gave to much to the general crowd and the giant backstab window is the biggest thing. It ruins pvp as much as pve. If you can backstab it you can win. If backstabs were reverted to demon's style dark would be come MUCH more difficult.

Good tip, also is there a hidden backstab rating or multiplier in demon's souls? In DKS it said on the weapon, and I know in Demons souls some weapons say that they are good for riposte/backstabbing, but is there some way to tell what the multiplier is? Maybe I should just be asking what weapon has the best backstab/riposte damage hah, but i was just curious.

Re: Backstabs in Demon Souls
Umm.. I'm not sure why people think the window is significantly smaller because I honestly think it's the same. I just fought someone yesterday at 4-1 and all the guy did was BS fish. If anything, roll-BSing is much easier in DeS since you can practically roll-BS almost any melee swing in the game.
