I'm getting a new copy tomorrow, and knowing how rusty I'm gonna be, I'm gonna make a new build to help me get back into the pvp flow.

I would change armor to increase HP. For a BSS I think 36 poise is enough right, you'll be mostly rolling and poking.

Only go 50 Int if you want WDB. Logan's cat caps at 45 Int, even though mugen says it's 44.

You can take a few points of end to put 1 into int and 2 into vit.

If you have plenty of chunks, I'd suggest this. Crystal +5 with cmw will be much more powerful than enchanted +5. The higher dex will also improve cast speed time, and make the BSS do more damage (obviously). In that case I'd swap bdr for wolf ring, seeing as that build is more melee oriented.

you've got enough poise to resist 2h katanas and 1h greatswords, but if you get hit by a 2h greatsword you have to toggle it.. not that that's really that hard.

i removed the soulspears and stuff.. and i gave you a tin crystallization tali with chameleon and crystal soul spear.. you cant spam it anymore, but you increase your chances of hitting the opponent as well as having a way to break their lock when they need it.

i also changed your rings to reflect this, and put a fap and havel on their so you could still have a fast roll but more life, too!

on top of that you now have thorn gloves to cancel backstabs with, big hat and maiden legs on for lots of sexy resists and giants armor for some poise and high defense.

i also swapped your bss out to a lightning rapier, because itll do more damage and since your fast rolling you can get some good roll stabs in.

BSS is probably for r2 comboing off a parry, not BSing.

oh well he can edit it back in if he doesn't like the rapier. it shouldn't be that hard.

Now that I think about it, that would actually do more damage than a riposte because of the BSS's pitiful crit damage.

@Thunk I don't like relying on buffs. I've only ever used rotten pine resin if I had the need to buff, otherwise I'd just fight over time.

@Dough If I'm fast rolling I want the poise in case I goof the timing a bit. If I'm ninja flip all I want is the poise to deal with the faster swing weapons

@Rift Life isn't that important for me, I'm used to hunting sl200+ with just 1200 and winning against ganks. As well I don't like relying on elemental when I've got a stat that scales.

I do wanna return to my basic form, with priority on dodging/spacing and doing chip damage (though large chip preferable, say atleast 350). Dough's right about the Parry > R2 combo. Also, it's good to know that 2h katana hits are higher, at 44. The resulting build http://tinyurl.com/8bq7eta

and yeah if you want to stick with magic thats cool. i just suggested lightning because that's harder to stack resists for.. just incase the spear isn't doing to well.

Yeah consider having a backup lightning or chaos in case you face GMB.

Yes indeed.

I have two builds that I think you might be interested in: this one is closer to your original vision, and this I feel would be more effective. Since you are confident in your abilities with spacing, I am sure you'll be able to operate just fine with the current amount of stamina on both builds. I also think that current spell selection is more effective than what you planned on originally having; there is no reason to Soul Spear if you can use Crystal Soul Spear. As well, Chameleon will give a much better chance of landing a game changing Soul Spear. Both come with a +5 Lightning weapon for landing critical hits, and allows to cover all three major weapon areas when combined with the Moonlight Butterfly Horn.

The other build that features the RoFaP instead of the Bellowing Dragoncrest Ring has more HP, Stamina, and Poise, but the magic will be a bit weaker. However, this isn't a huge loss as landing a Soul Spear or Homing Soulmass will be devastating, even if it's missing around 200 damage. It also lets you take two 2h Katana hits, which can often be critical in the occasional slug-fest. Another switch you can do is on the original build: turn the +5 Lightning Rapier into a Dagger, and upgrade the Heater Shield into a Crest Shield. This will help mitigate damage that Magic will do to you considerably, but don't be afraid to switch it to a Dragon Crest Shield.
