Since the beginning of the original/vanilla game Ciaran has been an object of mystery much like Artorias and Gough, other members of Gwyn's four elite knights. Her ring perhaps was a symbol of her power, the sheer damage a single Hornet Ring Backstab could dish out was incredible, and in some ways may have captured the interest of the community at large.
Now with the DLC, the Prepare to Die content, released for the new PC port I, one of Ciaran's greatest fans since the early days, felt the need to do a bit of digging into her character and her gear.
So if you don't want any spoilers in regards to her character please do not read on any futher. This thread contains in depth information about the DLC, specifically in regards to Ciaran's character, equipment, and role in the lore of Dark Souls.
From what few scraps of footage I have seen It is clear that Ciaran is alive and well and found later at the site where the player character kills the now corrupted Artorias. From what I gather the player character can op to trade the Soul of Artorias for her blade (perhaps this means that multiple play throughs are required to get all of her gear).
Ciaran is an NPC style character and not a boss, so she has no underlying health bar, but from PeevePeeverson's footage it is clear that she has a sizeable amount of vitality, perhaps in the region of 2-4 thousand. She makes use of a variety of techniques.
Throwing Items- I have determined from the footage that Ciaran makes use of a number of thowable items.
1- Lloyd's Talisman- This is perhaps her most dangerous ability as she is alble to stop the player character from healing through the use of Estus Flasks. She often makes use of this ability when the player character gains distance from her.
2- Posion Throwing Knives- She thows mildly damaging Knives at the Player which can cause poison or so I believe, perhaps the DLC has included some kind of bleed inducing throwing weapons.
Melee Attacks- Ciaran seems to be a purely combat oriented NPC, not making use of Pyromancies, Spells, or Miracles. Her two weapons the Gold Tracer and the Dark Silver Tracer have been speculated to cause bleed and poison damage (see equipment section for more information) and also do significant damage.
Her attack follow a spinning/ flowing sort of combo, indicated by her "gold tracer" lighting/ glowing before spinning a in a series of quick and damaging arcs. This is parriable but it does not seem to be too easy.
