personally i'm glad the dragon slayer spear, along with all other spears, is getting nerfed.

There is nothing fair nor balanced about many of the longer spears, i am glad they are getting nerfed, because i am tired of requiring an offhand spear to fight turtles.

First, i don't know why this got downrepped.

Second, i don't know which nerf you're talking about. Is it that spears bounce off shield, which i don't think is real (the guy in Peeve's video supposedly didn't have enough stats). Or that it takes more stamina to attack while a shield is up (this one is real)?

Silver Knight Spear = King

I think it's just that it requires more stamina to poke from behind a shield and more stamina is lost when you hit a shield with one. It won't stop the fast 2h spear users though, and the Silver Knight spear will still have a place in my offhand for those matches I really need to win.

Spear users are not hard to deal with.

Either they tank up and are playing defensive the whole time

or

Flip around and poke to death.

For the latter just keep shield up and hug em as much as possible. Use GC or just time your strikes correctly to hit them, or use a bow and out range them

The former just try bleed/poison/pyro/shotel and their toast

Didn't seem nerfed when I got invaded yesterday in Oolacile Township by a Dragonslayer Spear user. He R1'd 9 times in a row without missing a beat. Did it twice. I got out of a stunlock and he just kept on spamming his 1-hand R1. I though he'd hacked his stamina, but he eventually died, so I don't know why he would do his stamina and not his hp.

There was certainly no nerf in his stamina consumption.

The stamina nerf is for the poke behind a chain or if it bounces off a shield.

If you have max end/RoFaP/Cloranthy ring/Mask of Children/Grass buff,it seems possible to me to chain R1.(Although nine seems pretty high)

And maybe he hacked but still didn't want to destroy the joy of diing in Dark Souls.

Sounds like he just had alot of stamina. Don't know why you would jump to the "he's a hacker!" conclusion so fast.

Settle down there, knight. I jumped to no conclusion. Especially not one with an exclamation point. I said it 'seemed,' and I went on to say that I already doubted it since he died.

Over a VERY long fight he was able to hack and hack and hack. On Xbox I use a spear most of the time I PvP (which admittedly isn't much), and I really have to watch my stamina. Then again, I always 2-hand and I don't wear the FaP ring, so maybe that's the diff.

Ahh im just sick of people constantly saying people who beat them are hackers. You used the term hacker as one possible reason for his high stamina. It just really grinds my gears yknow?

Basically he had alot of stamina so part of your brain thought "He hacked his stamina". Makes me sad that's what this game has become.

Well, take into mind the guy jabbed a DSS 9 times. If that was in rapid succession, he'd require the FaP and 40 end to have 192 stamina, and he probably used up his entire bar. He may also have had the cloranthy ring, which is great for people who have problems with stamina management.

Nothing at all emanating from him, so he didn't have any stamina boost I could see (nor the Wolf override). I tried to think afterward if he was just really good at giving little pauses to get stamina back, but after his first couple flurries I was too busy counting... and escaping.

it probably got down repped because "Fair" and "Balanced" are pretty subjective and it honestly just sounds like whining. Particularly because the nerf doesn't effect half of what's being complained about.

And From changing spears is by no means an admission they were too strong. Unless of course Katanas were too weak and needed the buff they got.

A stamina nerf seems okay.

Spears are among the easiest weapons to block, and don't have good sweep attacks, save one or two. So most of their attacks are linear pokes. I don't see your complaint..

Their range makes it a pain to get close, and on the right build it's near impossible to actually damage them, either be because they roll and poke, or they can turtle for forever.

Pretty much, deflection would be a huge help.

Cloud I dunno what your talking about I put on Mask of Child/Giants/Crest Grass/chlor ring and DWGR then eat grrass and rock a DSS and loose all the time

We will just have to wait and see how a DSS 2H spammer likes his build when his precious DWGR gets nerfed and he's mid rolling/fat rolling.....SKS will be the new spear of choice that's for sure....it can be just as feared I guess tho

Well Glatts, obviously you aren't spacing yourself out. And now that the DWGR is nerfed it's gonna be harder to actually approach spear users if they just smash r1 constantly.

My ornstein cosplay is ruined by the DWGR nerf, but this shouldnt affect me much. The main problem is whenever people see a spear they're just gonna hold their shield up forever waiting for the spear user to make a poke and get deflected. I think this may end up having too great an effect on spears.

I would guess no, as they arent the sort of attacks to get deflected. But god help them if they make the DSS r2 deflect. No way lol.

Seriously idk why the f*** deflection doesn't exists in PvP. Everyone would be using shields lol but it would change the whole thing. And the Dark Hand shield used by the DWs at New Londo, you poke that thing and it has super deflection, why can't my Dark Hand do the same? Not fair from.

It will be harder tho I agree but it doesn't take any ring to unlock and run right past there linear spear spam for a pivot BS!

like most people spear guys love there roll R1's which are very very easy to parry!

Honestly I have no problems fighting a good spear guy like Dough or someone who would mix there attacks up and make it fun....its the mindless R1 mashing then turtling to build stam and repeat that annoy me

The Silver Knight spear is just as dangerous as the DSS, perhaps even more so because it needs a lesser stat requirement to reach full power so any Dex build can use it well. I certainly notice that when I use a spear people tend to fight dirty toward me, and it generally makes no difference, it's hard to lose while wielding a spear.
