Can't argue with The Witcher. In particular, I find the second one to be the pinnacle of conventional, story-driven RPGs. It has just enough known factors to be comfortable, but using the setting of The Witcher also demanded a different approach in many ways when compared to other RPGs. I think Dark Souls is a glimpse into the future of many RPGs, whereas The Witcher 2 is the perfected form of the old model. This generation has been exceedingly lucky to have two such excellent RPGs to its name.
Concerning the Dragon Age combat, I found it to be worse than that of other BioWare RPGs, including KotOR, NWN and so on. Mostly because it had a lot of difficulty without having much balance to it, so it was a hassle until you found a dominant strategy within your party's current abilities. Then it just became a cakewalk. I found KotOR and other BioWare games to have much better balance, because difficulty was always more moderated and appropriate, requiring enough micromanagement to provide some tension but never getting to the stage of having to boringly pause at every interval.
