Red phantom ganker?

I was watching my friend play Dark Souls. He placed his red summon sign in Undead Burg in 1st playthrough. When he was summoned into the host world there was another red phantom there. Then the host and the other red phantom ganged up against my friend and killed him. When my friend died, the host and the other red phantom praised each other.

Is this a new ganking tactic?

He says he was summoned and ganked, so yes, it's a gank. But it's not new.

One thing to though- if he invaded without RSS or dragon symbol and got teamed up on it may have just been a host and his pal wanting a private duel. When my friend and I duel in burg we usually leave the invaders to their own devices upstairs (like, if one of us loses the invader gets to fight the host- otherwise it's a free win for the separate invader) but sometimes they get impatient and interrupt our fight, at which point we'll just put the invader down together.

This is different. In this event the host and other red phantom attacked at the same time.

In the other event only one red phantom attacked, and the host sent a message (Which I now know was fight club.)

Meh, when I read the first half and saw the ending statement that looked very similar I assumed.. It's not new though, ganking with a red. I've done it in Dark Anor with a friend, as well as seen it quite a few times. (For example shortdude-_-123, the twitch guy, ganked me eating divs like candy with a red because I apparently "Tryhard'd" him by mid rolling katana not mashing the r1. =[] )
