Most would say the Dark Hand, I dislike all small shields.

dark hand is awesome, the other 1 small shields are pretty much the same and have fast parries. i would say go with the one you like the most and if youre willing to up to 1.5 i would say the wooden shield.

recently switched from the grass shield to darkhand and I love it. If your more into dodging attacks and using the occasional shield its hard to beat. Huge bonus it blocks 80% down the board. Second would be the heater shield imo.

I tried the dark hand, but that knockback was just killer for me. I suppose I could try it once more. I might shop around and see what I can fast roll with. Thank you everyone.

The leather and the east west shield, as well as their counterparts the large leather and wooden shield, are actually pretty reliable if you need to keep your equip weight down. The leather shields have much better fire defense in exchange for a bit of the other defenses, but the east west shield has medium deflection even though it weighs 1.0, and the wooden shield looks damn cool. The small wooden round shields have nice magic defense, but they have only 40 base hit resistance. I haven't used them enough to say if that would pose a problem, but I'd rather use the east west shield.

I see a lot of invaders rocking the wood shield which is weird to me but I guess its good.

I like the heater shield the best; it has enough stability to setup parry anything, though not so great resistances; definitely for fast rolls only. Dodging magic/pyro is nearly always preferable to tanking it though.

The Caduceus Round Shield and Warrior's Round Shield are the same shield, and are probably the best 1.0 lb. shields in the game.
However, the Leather Shield has better fire defense and slightly more stability, but less magic and slightly less lightning defense.
The Dark hand is another good option. It's shield is invisible when using Ring of Fog.
